At the risk of crapping on Star Trek: The Motion Picture before it's 40th anniversary, I really think I've figured out why that movie is kind of plodding.

Don't get me wrong, I love the movie. It's my favorite cause it's the closest the movies have gotten to Pulp SciFi.

But it really is slow, lacks character moments and just goes on and on. Robert Wise's Director's Cut does fix things in the case of speeding the movie up, but it's still lacking in a lot of action or character moments.

Ever since I got my hands on the first draft of the movie written by Harold Livingston back when it was a two hour TV pilot, I tried to figure out where everything went wrong.

The pilot is actually really good, has a lot of action, a few nice nice character moments and really moves. The only real flaw is the ending, where V'Ger learns humans created it and it literally just turns and leaves.

How did it go so wrong?

I think it was the "Writer's War" between Harold Livingston and Gene Roddenberry.

I got several other drafts of the movie, including the second draft by Gene Roddenberry. Roddenberry's second draft actually added in a lot more character moments.

In the opening moments of "Top Gun," an ace Navy pilot flies upside down about 18 inches above a Russian-built MiG and snaps a Polaroid picture of the enemy pilot. Then he flips him the finger and peels off.

It's a hot-dog stunt, but it makes the pilot (Tom Cruise) famous within the small circle of Navy personnel who are cleared to receive information about close encounters with enemy aircraft.

And the pilot, whose code name is Maverick, is selected for the Navy's elite flying school, which is dedicated to the dying art of aerial dogfights.

The best graduate from each class at the school is known as "Top Gun." And there, I think, you have the basic materials of this movie, except, of course, for three more obligatory ingredients in all movies about brave young pilots.

Navy jet pilot during the Vietnam era, until he and his plane disappeared in unexplained circumstances.

Okay, finally watching #HappiestSeason... I shall tweet my thoughts with no spoilers. 🥰

Fun little reindeer kink scene. 😂

I literally thought: "this has gotta be Ohio or PA", and looked it up and sure enough...

Kristen Stewart pet-sitting for others during the holidays on an annual basis hits waaaay too close to home.

The "marriage as an institution" dialogue is a bit meh. Not the point itself, but I feel like I've listened to this exchange a million times.

Doolittle is weirder and worse than I expected. It pulls the Hunt for Red October language trick but for animal noises, and introduces the concept of the Doctor talking to animals three times in the first fifteen minutes, in case you forgot.

This movie is a higher budget FARCE OF THE PENGUINS.

Apparently it's Dolittle.

I was not prepared for just how bonkers that was.

At one point, Dolittle's boat blows up, so Antonio Banderas gives him a new one. And everyone is hanging out on it as they sail and they hear a voice say "company!"

Saif Ali Khan wants to reimagine Ramayana to show Ravana as a good person & justify Sita’s abduction. This is most disturbing & must be opposed.
Why at a time when states are struggling to deal with increasing kidnappings?

Maybe Saif’s anti-Hindu family history can explain

Saif’s ancestors came to India from Afghanistan & rose to power under Mughals. They assisted British against Hindu kings in establishing empire. Saif’s family has ISI connections. One of them was top choice for ISI chief post. Saif is proud of it all, and named his son Taimur

Said’s ancestry in India begins with arrival of Salamat Khan in 1480 AD. Babur, Timurid ruler of Kabulistan, defeated Ibrahim Lodhi in first Battle of Panipat and established Mughal rule. Salamat’s great-grandson Muhammed Pir rose to power in Akbar’s court
Source: The Hindu

Salamat’s descendent Alaf Khan helped Mughals in battle against Hindu Maharaja of Jaipur and was rewarded with Kalam mahal (which today is known as Pataudi House neat Delhi Gate).
From same family, Faiz Talab Khan helped British against Marathas.

As reward, Faiz Talab Khan became first Nawab of newly established princely state of Pataudi in 1804. Saif was (symbolically) anointed 10th Nawab after death of his father Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi in 2011
Read:

Adi Shankara established the Sringeri Peetham as the 1st of 4 amnaaya peetams.

The four being
1. Sarada Peetam at Sringeri.
2. Govardhana Peetam at Puri
3. Kalika at Dwaraka
4. Jyothir at Badarikashramam.

He installed his 4 most prominent shishyas as heads of the peetams.

Sureshwaracharya was assigned to Sringeri as its head.

Sringeri is a corruption of Rshyashrunga giri.

Rshyashrunga maharshi [and his father Sri Vibandhaka Maharshi] did their tapas at this place.

It is at Sringeri that Shankara spent 12 of His precious 32 years!!

That gives you and idea how much He loved this place.

Rshyashruga maharshi had a horn on his forehead, a result of being born to a deer. His mere presence was enough to shower rains!!

Rshyashrunga was one who led Putrakamesthi Yaagam of Dasaratha Maharaj and which resulted in Sri Rama's birth!!

Has this man been concealing his true identity?

Is this man a supposed 'dead' Seal Team Six soldier?

Witness protection to be kept safe until the right moment when all will be revealed?!

Who ELSE is alive that may have faked their death/gone into witness protection?
