A Bombay High Court Bench of Justices SS Shinde and Manish Pitale will shortly hear a petition filed by Poet Dr. Varavara Rao’s wife seeking his release on medical grounds

Sr adv Anand Grover submits that except for the first medical record of Varavara Rao's JJ Hospital admission, the State has submitted all other medical records
J Shinde - Bail has been applied on medical ground.

Asg - his present condition has to be seen.

J Shinde - If they want to argue after bringing all the medical records they should be allowed to do so.
ASG- The latest report doesnt show dementia
J Manish Pitale- Can dementia go backward in time Mr. Singh? Can a patient become devoid of dementia?
Sr. Adv Anand Grover - We don't want him in Nanavati anymore. He has temporarily recovered. But we are pressing for bail on medical grounds.
Grover and sr. Adv Indira Jaising will both argue for Dr. Varavara Rao
Indira Jaising: We have decided among ourselves that Anand is a bio chemist and therefore will argue for bail on medical grounds and I will argue on the wife's petition for a declaration on cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment .
Aanand Grover- He has an enlarged prostrate gland. So UTI is very common, and from there he suffered from derilium.
Anand Grover - The main problem is Taloja. They dont have the infrastructure for his constant monitoring.
Grover begins reading out the dates right from the beginning
Anand Grover - 1st of June he was discharged from JJ Hospital. Till now the report has not been made available to us. On June 2, 2020 the adv on record had the opportunity to see the report.
He had complained of giddiness, he's a know case of hypertension, imbalance in the amount of electrolytes and low sodium. Kidney failure is know consequence of these.
Anand Grover (refering to the last Nanavati report) - There are a list of 20 medicines being given to him. I had written to Nanavati if there can be a relapse, no response.
J Shinde - We want the entire list of medicines.
Because he has underlined conditions, we wrote to Nanavati asking if it possible with his ailments that he may suffer UTI again as it's a drug-resistant bug? And can there can be a covid relapse?

There is no response to this.
The serum electrolyte test which was the most important test, was not done till now..[till his admission to nanavati]
J Shinde - One interruption. Mr. Singh chargesheet is filed, charge is not framed.
How many witnesses have been cited?
ASG checking, meanwhile Anand Grover continues argument on medical bail.
Anand Grover- I dont want to find fault with Taloja jail, but the requiring monitoring was not done.
Justice SS Shinde - Please summarise in the end the cumulative effect of these ailments on his health.
Sr. Adv Anand Grover - Within 48 days of his earlier discharge, he was unable to even brush his teeth.
Anand Grover - Please look at the report.

In JJ Hospital his sodium levels are shown to be 136 but days later Nanavati and St. George find it at 120. The normal level is 135.
This shows that he was not in a fit state even before he was admitted JJ.
He would be better off to stand for trial, among his own family members in Hyderabad. He has a neurological problem.

He is not a character who will not stand trial. He has had 24 cases against him but never absconded.
Taloja acknowledges he needs close monitoring as Nanavati has said it. But they can't do it.

Ordinary people don't think prisons or prisoners requires priority. Taloja is incapable of taking care of this patient as they are ill equipped.
There is a lack of infrastructure.
J Shinde- The hospital(Nanavati) for medical experts has given the opinion he is fit for discharge. Can that be substituted?
Anand - He is fit to be discharged. But that doesn't mean he does not require close monitoring and Taloja Jail is incapable that.
And he is still suffering from Hyponatremia (Low sodium level). In the past as well, Nanavati has directed Taloja to monitor his sodium level it was not done. We don't even know if the urine culture was done.
ASG - He ( #VaravaraRao ) doesnt suffer from dementia as per his last report.

J Manish Pitale- Can dementia go backward in time Mr. Singh? Can a patient become devoid of dementia?

ASG Anil Singh - I am not a medical expert.

J Pitale- Mr. Gover in all these ailments, where is dementia?

Anand Grover - Argument is that he suffers from low sodium levels, which often lead to derilium. The symptoms are akin to dementia.
Case adjourned to 2.30pm tomorrow.

I'm going to do two history threads on Ethiopia, one on its ancient history, one on its modern story (1800 to today). 🇪🇹

I'll begin with the ancient history ... and it goes way back. Because modern humans - and before that, the ancestors of humans - almost certainly originated in Ethiopia. 🇪🇹 (sub-thread):

The first likely historical reference to Ethiopia is ancient Egyptian records of trade expeditions to the "Land of Punt" in search of gold, ebony, ivory, incense, and wild animals, starting in c 2500 BC 🇪🇹

Ethiopians themselves believe that the Queen of Sheba, who visited Israel's King Solomon in the Bible (c 950 BC), came from Ethiopia (not Yemen, as others believe). Here she is meeting Solomon in a stain-glassed window in Addis Ababa's Holy Trinity Church. 🇪🇹

References to the Queen of Sheba are everywhere in Ethiopia. The national airline's frequent flier miles are even called "ShebaMiles". 🇪🇹
