and/or reminders of past traumas and/or losses have no business and play nothing but a negative role, in rebuilding self-esteem, self-worth, self-love, community and the meaningful things we all need to create lives for ourselves that we feel are worth living. Especially in
exceedingly early ‘sobriety’, ‘abstinence’ and/or the traditional deprivations of one’s substance(s) of choice when people have had their only coping mechanism ripped away from them, under the ancient and provenly ineffective current model of ‘recovery’.
The author @johannhari101 , wrote the book ‘Chasing the Scream The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs’ said in his now famous Ted talk ‘Everything You Think You Know About Addiction is Wrong’:
“For 100 years now we've been singing war songs about addicts, when all along we should have been singing love songs to them. Because the opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection.”
While 12 Step ideology works for many, I was harmed significantly by the church & the Judeo-Christian values of attending 5-6 meetings a week for 3 years - just so I could prove to myself & be able to testify in circumstances like this, it felt duplicitous & CONTINUED HURTING ME
People have successfully sued their state governments AND WON when forced to go to 12 step meetings on the basis that it violated their religious freedoms. It has likely has not happened on a larger scale because of socioeconomic disparities and the cost of
efficacious legal representation. The author of this piece should be commended 4 saying out loud what so many of us feel but whisper in secret out of fear that we will be ostracized, criticized & judged right out of the program 4 daring to criticize the Holy Father himself Bill W
He was mortal, cheated on his wife, and experimented with LSD later in life as he went through great bouts of depression. I AM NOT JUDGING HIM FOR THIS. Simply pointing out hypocrisies that many die-hard 12 steppers are not even aware of.

It exists for everyone EXCEPT the people victimized by it. I was 23 when my father died and within less than 1 year had been involuntarily committed by a family who chose their deeply flawed morality over loving me despite my use of alcohol, multiple times,
was given antipsychotic medication that caused me to gain 75 + lbs in a matter of months and less than one year after my father died, I was deemed 'treatment-resistant' by psychiatrists b/c antidepressants didn't work and told electroshock was my last hope. MY LAST HOPE?!?
All because nobody tried love first.
I went through a lot of trauma as a child and adult and while far from perfect I am fighting these messages despite what I've been through. You see 'tough love' is neither. B/c what's tough is the love given despite witnessing the suffering a person is experiencing.
YOU CANNOT FORCE A PERSON TO HEAL. @MassGovernor are you listening because I understand you're going to build a so-called trauma-informed prison for women for $50,000,000 in MA by 2024. You might as well try to light a match submerged beneath the surface of the Charles River.
We don't listen to scientists about climate change, we don't listen to sociologists and Harm Reduction MDs re: addiction, we don't listen to people w/lived experience who DO possess the capacity to speak eloquently about their lives. We listen to centrists & lobbyists & polls
& billionaires & those with political, financial, cultural, & social capital. We heal in relationships. We heal when we are truly & non-judgementally heard & given the opportunity to be our authentic selves. & define ourselves as a person first, born with the same rights, each 1.

Chief Justice John Roberts later administered the presidential oath to Biden as Jill Biden held the bible and as his children, Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, stood by.

"Ban" is a verb meaning to "officially or legally prohibit" something. If the Biden administration is not approving new fracking permits, how is that not "officially or legally prohibiting" new fracking permits?


The economy is bleeding, and the Biden administration's response is to cripple one of the few industries that has been consistently employing people throughout this crisis.

But, his allies in the media don't want him to take that PR hit, so they run cover and play word games. Biden's exact words were "We are not going to ban fracking. Period." The "Period." there would imply that ANY ban is off the table.

If you are going to prohibit via executive order - which is nothing more than a law passed outside of the normal legislative process - anything, you are "legally" prohibiting it. There are legal consequences to violating that regulation.

So yes, definitionally, Biden has "legally prohibited" fracking in some way, shape, or form, which is the opposite of his campaign statements.

In other words, he lied.

Did the Biden inauguration really have to start with "This Land Is Your Land," an ode to land theft, settler colonialism and Indigenous genocide? (No matter how well-intentioned Woody Guthrie may have been.) YOU ARE ON NATIVE LAND!


Every presidential inauguration has in effect been a celebration of Indigenous land theft & genocide, whether directly stated or not. Settlers exerting the power of their settler government and "ownership" over Indigenous lands.

At John F. Kennedy's 1961 inauguration, poet Robert Frost began: “The land was ours before we were the land’s…Such as we were we gave ourselves outright (The deed of gift was many deeds of war)." That settler white "We," justifying and erasing genocide, slavery, history.

At Teddy Roosevelt's 1905 inauguration, he had 6 famous
chiefs on horseback to give the people "a good show." The chiefs came hoping to appeal for justice, but instead were displayed to represent what TR & others viewed as the complete subjugation of Indigenous peoples & lands.


The chiefs included Quanah Parker of the Comanche, Buckskin Charlie from the Ute, Hollow Horn Bear and American Horse of the Sioux, Little Plume from the Blackfeet and the imprisoned Apache warrior Geronimo, who pleaded in vain with Teddy Roosevelt for the release of his people.

With Biden preparing to take office today, a short reflection about being in higher ed teaching media courses the past four years: 1/

One of the core memories I have of the 2016 campaign were the class discussions. Most of my students feared Trump winning, but didn’t think it’d happen. He was a clown. Voters weren’t that dumb. Etc. 2/

What that belief did is create space for privilege that came out in discussions (bear in mind a lot of my students are white). I had a *lot* of students disaffected and ambivalent about the choice. They didn’t read political coverage. Both sides were the same. A lot of that. 3/

The morning after the election, I had a lot of distraught students. I had about 15 in a class of 30 email me that they weren’t sure they could come to class that. I was distraught myself. I couldn’t blame them.

So I want to tell you a story I haven’t told anyone before. 4/

About an hour before class, my then-colleague Dr. Imaani El-Burki came into the office. She has since taken another position, but at the time she was our joint appointed professor in journalism and Africana Studies.

She’s an amazing person and I wish you could know her. 5/

This is very unique temple as Shiva and Vishnu both are in the “linga” form in the same Garbhagriham. The Srikovil is in a circular pattern. Temple's Prathishta was done by Parasurama.


Mahadeva and Maha Vishnu in the same Srikovil is very rare Prathishta, but poojas are done separately Dhara is done to Maha Vishnu here. People suffering from “KAIVISHAM” and mental illness are fully cured on drinking a medicinal herb supplied by a nearby family here.


The root of the banyan tree around the Ayyappa Sannidhanam is said to have great powers for skin ailments.

Very ancient temple but was covered with forest for many years.

Many readers have asked me "why do so many pulp covers feature women in ripped red blouses standing in swamps while a man fights off an unusual animal attack?"

The answer is artist Will Hulsey...


Will Hulsey was the undisputed king of the animal attack pulp cover. You name it, he'd paint it attacking you in a pool of stagnant water.


Very little is known about Will Hulsey, but he worked on a number of men's pulp magazines in the 1950s and early 1960s including Man's Life, True Men, Guilty, Trapped and Peril.


Their audience was ex-GIs: during WWII the US Council of Books in Wartime had given away over 122 million books to American servicemen to read; this led to a post-war surge in paperback and magazine sales amongst these newly enthusiastic readers.


As a result the 1950s saw a raft of men's pulp magazines being published to tap into this market - almost 200 different titles!

Battle was between the Maratha Warrior Baji Prabhu Deshpande and Sidi Masoud of Adil Shahi Sultanate.

In 1660, the Maratha King Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji was trapped in the fort of Panhala, under siege and vastly outnumbered by an Adilshahis army led by Sidi Masoud.

And while everyone is thinking that finally the Maratha king will be subdued, Shivaji planned to escape to the fort of Vishalgadh. It was administered by a Maratha chieftain named Range Narayan Orpe under Shivaji.

For months the siege warfare continued as Shivaji made sure that the food source of the Besieging army drops down, due to which they will initiate a general assault on the castle.

Shivaji, Baji Prabhu, and around 600 of their best troops, hardened mountaineers of the Maval region, would dash through the Adilshahis force at night.

A man named Shiva Kashid, who resembled Shivaji in appearance, had volunteered to dress like the king and get captured.
