Shri Maha Ganapati Temple, Gokarna, Karnataka

The Temple is dedicated Lord Ganesha, located at about 100 meters from Mahabaleshwar Temple. Lord Ganesha Idol is a standing one which is quite unique and dates back to Ramayana Period.

The Sri Maha Ganapathi temple was built in honour of the boy Ganesha. As Ganesha deceived the demon Ravana and saved the Atmalinga that is now installed in the Mahabaleshwar temple.The image of Vinayaka bears a dent, said to have been caused when Ravana,
enraged at the loss of the Athma Lingam had hit him.This is a very small temple located in the vicinity of Mahabaleshwar Temple. This Temple houses the granite image of Ganesha. The image is 5 feet (1.5 m) tall and two-handed;
at the top of its head there is hole that is said to be a mark of a violent blow inflicted by Ravana.
It is a custom that devotees need to visit this temple first before heading towards Mahabaleshwar Temple.
