Interviewing at Techstars. Quick thread:

(Guide about the format/delivery, not the business)

 Be yourself. No-one can do you better, so first and foremost stay true to yourself. If there is a conflict between this guide and you, choose you.
Knowing that if you're successful, this is the first of 10 years of meetings. Hence: build a connection. This isn't meant to be transactional. Connect on a human-level asking about anything you are genuinely curious about having read up on them prior.
Like attracts like. Bring good energy, positive vibes and gratitude. "So happy to be here", "Thank you for the time", "Thats a great question", "I appreciate that perspective!"
Answer all the questions you know, but feel free to say "I don't know" to one or some of them. Confidence is easy to show, coachability isn't. We want to know you're aware you don't have all the answers.

Fun fact: We don't either, but we'll get there together.
The 30 or so minutes will fly by. Make it conversational and be concise. Remember, clear and concise isn't the same as short and fast. Answer questions clearly and offer to share more. Avoid auto-piloting into pitching mode.
Check-in time to time. "Did I answer your question?", "How are we going with time?", "Am I making sense?".

If you want to cover something important, re-direct smoothly: "I'd love to tell you about our traction, then can I tell you more about why X is the best Y for this?"
Talk yourself up. Also your team. Whether it's co-founders, employees or even advisors, speak about all the people who care about solving this problem - more than your financial model and tech stack.
Know your numbers. Saying 200+ customers is not as believable as "We have 242 people who have downloaded our app."
Weave in the story: why you, why that co-founder, why this, why now, why you will wake up early solving this in five years, why will you win, etc.
If there's multiple of you, know who speaks when and who answers which questions. Have a way to signal to your co-founder that they're talking too much.

A good ol' kick under the table worked in the old days.
Write down the questions you get asked and make sure you address all of them. Questions often come two-fold, so keep track. If you don't know the answer, offer to find out and follow up afterwards.

On the day of Amavasya, devotees get the darshan of Shyam Baba in Shyam varan (black color). In ordinary days, the form of Baba is saffron. The reason for this is a custom. The real head of Shyam Baba which had appeared from Shyam Kund is of Shyam varan.


Every day Shyam Baba's grand Shringar is done by Pujaris. The main part of Shyam Baba's shringar is Tilak. This Shringar is done by the members of Nij Mandir sevaks. The sevaks of the Nij Mandir do sandalwood tilak to Baba everyday in the auspicious time.


This Divine Tilak is applied from the forehead to the nose. When Baba is given a bath by sevaks, this tilak comes off. Then in the auspicious time, the sevaks again apply tilak to Baba.


There is no auspicious time on the Amavasya. Because of this, tilak is not done on that day. That's why devotees have darshan of Shyam Baba on the Amavasya only in the actual real form (Shyam Swaroop). Baba's tilak is done on Amavasya only on the day of Deepawali.

Story of Thumba Poo and Shiva

Thumba poo is a tiny white flower which grows in all areas. These flowers are used for treatment for sinus. Small children who have polyps in Nose are told to crush tumbha leaves and apply in nose part.

Again, at such a key moment in UK and at such high political levels, evidence of deep misunderstanding of EU: The PM is under pressure in some quarters to delay #Brexit vote to allow her first to “improve” deal in Brussels BUT EU is determined not to budge at this stage

2) All EU leaders watching tomorrow’s vote. Of course they want to avoid a no deal #Brexit BUT they feel the deal - so painfully negotiated between EU and UK - is too fresh to re-open. Clarifications, yes but fundamental renegotiations, no.

3) The EU’s international reputation as a tough deal-maker is at stake here too. If Brussels now suddenly “gives in” to U.K. on EU red lines (eg backstop) then that would weaken the EU’s reputation in future trade negotiations with other non EU countries

4) Also on backstop the EU is unlikely to cave in to favour a relationship with a leaving member state (UK) against the explicit wishes and ignoring the deep concerns of a continuing member: Ireland.

5) Both the EU and the PM signed up to a guarantee to protect the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. If either the U.K. or EU can leave the backstop unilaterally then this clearly is no longer a guarantee.

That's weird. Income inequality in China is legendary.

Let's check this number.

2/The New York Times cites the World Bank's recent report, "Fair Progress? Economic Mobility across Generations Around the World".

3/The World Bank report has a graph in which it appears to show the same value for China's Gini - under 0.3.

The graph cites the World Development Indicators as its source for the income inequality data.

It looks as if the latest estimate for China's Gini is 42.2.

That estimate is from 2012.

5/A Gini of 42.2 would put China in the same neighborhood as the U.S., whose Gini was estimated at 41 in 2013.

I can't find the <30 number anywhere. The only other estimate in the tables for China is from 2008, when it was estimated at 42.8.

DEVI KARUMARIAMMAN, THIRUVERKADU (TN)

Devi is worshipped here as both Swayambhu (self-manifested) and as Parashakti (with 4 arms holding skull,sword,trishul,udukkai/damru).

Here, Muruga got Vel from Devi to fight Suran. So the place was called Vel kadu which became Verkadu.


It is said that there was an anthill here long ago. Devi appeared in the dream of a devotee and asked him to build a shrine at that spot. When the anthill was removed, the swayambhu murti of Devi emerged. So Devi is called Karuvil Illadha Karumari ( not in the womb of mother).


Once, Devi went to Surya in the form of an old woman but Surya neglected her. Devi’s anger made Surya lose his brightness.
To appease her, Surya said that His rays would fall on Her directly twice in a year and touch her feet. Also, Sunday is celebrated as day of Devi Karumari.


There is also a wooden image of Devi (Marachilai Amman) here. Devotees offer locks to her in the belief that She would safe guard their houses.
Temple tank (Thiruchamber Poigai) is said to have been created by Subramanya. Taking dip in it is said to cure skin related disorders.
