ABHAY MUDRA

In continuation to my thread on Mudras.

Abhay Mudra is an important gesture in Indian iconography.

In it, the right hand us raised & opened, straight up, raising forward.

Abhay literally means fearless and the gesture indicates blessing, protection & reassurance

The gesture is ancient and widespread and is found in the iconography of Buddhists, Jains and Hindus.

Bhagwan Buddha and the Tirthankaras are frequently seen using this gesture. Bhagwan Shiva, in his Natraja, or divine dancer, pose has his upper right hand in the abhaya mudra.

In Thailand, and especially in Laos, this mudra is associated with the movement of the walking Buddha (also called 'the Buddha placing his footprint'). It is nearly always used in images showing the Buddha upright, either immobile with the feet joined, or walking.

Abhaya mudra is a ‘seal’ used during yoga and meditation practice as a means of channeling the flow of vital life force energy known as prana. This gesture is used to dispel fear and develop courage.

For maximum benefits, it should be practiced daily for up to 30 minutes.

This story was first published in an insignificant Hindi magazine called Yadava Shakti. In 2011, it was published in Forward Press & was used by the AIBSF(All India Backward Student Federation) unit of JNU

The orginal article was made chatpata by adding phrases like 'must be', 'may have been' etc

Forward press is run by a OBC - Xti@n.

So who are the real people spreading these pseudo-historical stories? Xtian missionaries and the infamous JNU activists.

🌼Story of understanding the untold🌼

After discovering Sitamata, Hanuman and his army were travelling to Kishkinda. Madhuvana, Sugriva's private garden came in between. The complete garden was filled with beehives and several juicy fruits.

This was very well guarded by a monkey called Dadimukha. Dadhimukha was sitting in front of this garden at 4 doors. Only Sugriva was allowed in.

So the monkeys while returning, wanted some fun in Madhuvana and enjoy honey there. They expressed this to Hanuman.

Hanuman wasn't for this idea as it would indicate to Sugriva their victory.

But Jambavan and the other monkeys wanted to enjoy after so much hard work. So they entered Madhuvana.

All the monkeys started drinking honey and polishing off the juicy fruits in the garden.

Dadimukha immediately ran to Sugriva and complained that his uncle Jambavan and defence minister Hanuman both were useless. They have entered Madhuvana and are destroying all the fruits.

Not only that when Dadimukha tried to prevent them, they all attacked him and other guards.

Bhagwan Rama, Lakshman and Sugriva were all together in this hall.
Lakshman got annoyed and asked Sugriva about this.

Sugriva patiently responded by saying Dadimukha is complaining about Angad and his army of monkeys along with Jambavan.

Have anyone heard of Savarkar working for untouchables and opening a temple in Ratnagiri?

When Savarkar was under house arrest at Ratnagiri (Maharashtra), he toiled hard and persistently, for decades, to eliminate casteism (Jaat-based discrimination).

Result? Well, as Ambedkar himself noted, because of Savarkar's work Ratnagiri district and parts of Konkan were totally free of caste-based discrimination.

(We were always taught of Gandhi fighting for untouchables 😏)

He organised community feasts where people of all castes sat together and ate, he got temples opened for all castes, where properly trained priests from, what were traditionally considered, lower castes presided, he got thread-ceremony (Upanayana) performed on

thousands of ex-untouchable children, to raise the status of women in their own eyes and those of the society, he organized gatherings for women. There are hundred other things Savarkar did to end casteism.

Savarkar had said, "The Kashi Vishweshwara, Jagannath Puri, Dwarka, Rameshwar and other temples should be subject to certain rules and regulations, open to darshan for all Hindus of all castes. No Hindu shall be denied access on the basis of birth - based caste distinction.

Jassa Singh - The man who rebuilt Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple)

In 1762, Punjab was fighting for freedom. Ahmad Shah Abdali (Durrani) was the karta dharta of Punjab in those days.

1762 was known for Sikh genocide/massacre as 25k - 30k sikhs (expected either 1/3rd or half the population of Sikhs) were slaughtered at Kup.

Ahmad Shah Durrani was part of a long line of conquerors that invaded Punjab since Mahmud of Ghazni in 1001.

Ahmad Shah then marched to Sri Harmandir Sahib & blew it up using gunpowder without leaving a single brick intact.

Too sprinkle salt on their wounds he filled the holy tank with the carcasses of dead cows. (Can Sikhs of today forget this?)

This boosted Ahmad Shah's confidence.

Around Diwali, he decided to finish off the Sikhs at Lahore with his 50000 Afghan soldiers.

The Sikhs were waiting to take revenge. They charged the Afghans with their war cry "Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguruji ki fateh" and forced Ahmad Shah to draw off his army.

Once in 1761, Ahmad Shah was returning triumphant after winning the third battle of Panipat against Marathas. He was taking his booty of 22000 hindu and muslim women to be sold in Afghanistan.

Jassa Singh rescued these women and gallantly escorted them to their families.

Nanjundeshwara Temple is a famous Shiva Temple located in Karnataka at the bank of river Kapila. Temple is also called Varanasi of South. Nanjunda means one who has consumed poison.

Story is related to the Samudra Mathanam when Paramashiva had to consume halahala.

Parashurama worshipped Mahadeva here to relieve himself from the curse of Mathru Hatya. While clearing the place to do poojas Parashurama's axe hit the Shivalingam and it began bleeding, that

mark is still visible even today. Thus
it is also believed that Parashurama did Shiva Prathishta here

Sthala Puranam says that, once there was a demon named Keshi who disturbed the people in the area, after getting blessing from Brahma Deva and Mahavishnu. Mahadeva appeared

here and killed demon Keshi and blessed this place as Papa Vinashini. Whoever praying to Srikanteshwara or Nanjundeshwara, after bathing in the Kabini River will be relieved from all sins.

EVOLUTION OF CROWNS

The ancient Indian kings called a head crown as a Mukut and it would mostly constitute of a golden ornamental headgear like an oval cap with gems.

Sometimes it would also include a halo circle to show the divinity of the king

As it was considered that kings were appointment by the gods themselves. Example the kings of mewar considered themselves to be the ‘Diwan of eklingji')

But in most cases very few Mukut with halo effect have been found.

Samudragupta in the gupta era coin. You can see the helmet like headwear on him.

Till gupta era the solid golden head wear was used in most days of the monarch.

But since the onset of 8th century it reduced in usage and was now used only as a ceremonial headwear.

Whereas earlier the Maharaja had to wear the mukut whenever his court was in session.

Still mukut was being used prominently for ceremonial activities till recent times.

But as times past the style of headwear also changed.

The kings mostly wore turbans ordained with pearls and gems while rarely anyone wore a true Mukut after 16th century.

It’s underremarked upon that stablecoins accomplish basically all of the original design goals for Bitcoin qua a transactional mechanism (instant free value transfer anywhere), but that nobody cares about this because nobody ever cared about that part of the pitch.
