Koluvu Srinivasa Perumal - Bali Beram at Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Tirumala, Tirupati.

Bali Beram / idol is known as Koluvu Srinivasa Murthy or Lekhana Srinivasa Murthy in Tirumala.

This idol is made of five precious metals and resembles the silver idol of Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy.
A court (Koluvu) is held in the Snapana Mandapam on the golden throne supported by sculptured lions every day after Tomala Seva before the Archana.

In this court, Koluvu Srinivasa Murthy is offered royal felicitations with chatra (the royal umbrella) and chamara (a fly-flap) befitting an emperor.

The particulars of tithi (the number of the day in a month), vaara (weekday), and nakshatra (the presiding star) of the day are read from the Hindu Calendar (Panchanga Shravanam) along with the income and expenditure statement of the earlier day to this deity.

Obviously, Koluvu Srinivasa Murthy is regarded as the supervising authority of the temple’s income and expenditure.

Why does one have a Prayer room in home?

Most Indian homes have a prayer room or altar. A lamp is lit and the God worshipped each day.

Further spiritual practices like japa - (repetition of the God's name), meditation, paaraayana- reading of the scriptures, prayers, and devotional singing etc are also done here.

Special worship is done on auspicious occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, festivals etc., Each member of the family - young or old - communes with and worships the Divine here.

God is the true holder of the house we live in too. The prayer room is the Master room of the house. We are the earthly occupants of His property. This view rids us of false pride and possessiveness.

The ideal attitude to take is to respect the God as the true owner of our homes and us as caretakers of His home. But if that is relatively difficult, we could at least think of Him as a very welcome guest.

At the top of the hills of Kottaimalai, near Vellore, is a Vishnu temple called Padavedu Kottaimalai Sri Venugopalaswamy temple, which is only open on Saturdays from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Garuda - Story of Vinata Suta

The race of snakes trace their origins to Kadru, the wife of rishi Kashyapa. Kadru bore a thousand snakes through the grace of the muni. Kadru had a sister by the name Vinata, who was also married to Kashyapa.

Vinata had a son by the name Aruna, who ended up becoming the Sun’s charioteer.

One day, the sisters beheld the celestial white horse Ucchaishrava flying in the sky. They entered into a wager about the colour of the horse’s tail. Vinata claimed that it would be white, while Kadru bet that the white horse had a black tail. @DivineElement

They agreed that the loser of the wager would spend her life in servitude to the other sibling. Deciding to ascertain the colour of the tail the next day, the sisters returned home.

At home, Kadru requested her sons (snakes) to seek the horse overnight and attach themselves to the tail so that it would appear black during inspection.

Himavad Gopalaswamy Temple, Chamarajanagar, Karnataka.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna who is known here as Sri Himavad Gopalaswamy.

It is located at the highest peak of Bandipur National Park, Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka.

Dense fog could be observed throughout the year on the peak and thus the Deity gets the name Himavad Gopalaswamy.

This temple was built by the Hoysala King Ballala during 1315 CE.

The ruling Wodeyars of Mysore later took over the maintenance of the temple.

The black stoned Deity of Sri Gopalaswamy is present in the Tri-Bhangi form (Three bended posture) holding a flute and standing beneath a tree.

It is said that sage Agastya performed intense penances here and as a result Lord Vishnu blessed this place and promised to reside here.

The priest patiently narrates the legend associated with the place and sprinkles this water on the devotees.
