The particulars of tithi (the number of the day in a month), vaara (weekday), and nakshatra (the presiding star) of the day are read from the Hindu Calendar (Panchanga Shravanam) along with the income and expenditure statement of the earlier day to this deity.

Himavad Gopalaswamy Temple, Chamarajanagar, Karnataka.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna who is known here as Sri Himavad Gopalaswamy.

It is located at the highest peak of Bandipur National Park, Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka.

Dense fog could be observed throughout the year on the peak and thus the Deity gets the name Himavad Gopalaswamy.

This temple was built by the Hoysala King Ballala during 1315 CE.

The ruling Wodeyars of Mysore later took over the maintenance of the temple.

The black stoned Deity of Sri Gopalaswamy is present in the Tri-Bhangi form (Three bended posture) holding a flute and standing beneath a tree.

The panel behind Lord Gopalaswamy depicts His lilas displaying the cows, cowherd friends, His consorts Rukmini Devi & Satyabhama Devi

It is said that sage Agastya performed intense penances here and as a result Lord Vishnu blessed this place and promised to reside here.

A unique feature here is that throughout the year just above the door leading to the Sanctum Sanctorum, cold-water drips constantly.

The priest patiently narrates the legend associated with the place and sprinkles this water on the devotees.

What is the significance of Arudra Darshan?

Based on Cauvery’s request Perumal revealed Himself with Sridevi, Bhoodevi, Neeladevi, Mahalakshmi and Saranayaki.

Here, Perumal holds a lotus in His hand to symbolize His boons to Cauvery.
So, on the day of Adi Perukku, ie, on Adi 18, Special poojas and Theerthavari festival are performed every year.
