Yesterday’s insurrection was instigated & incited by President Trump. He is unfit to hold office for even one day longer.
— Richard Blumenthal (@SenBlumenthal) January 7, 2021
The 25th Amendment should be invoked &, if the VP & Cabinet refuse to act, Senate Republicans must join the House to impeach & remove Trump.
Unofficial roll call of senators endorsing removal: (thread)

Donald Trump has shown he is a direct threat to the safety and security of Americans and the integrity of our democracy. The Vice President & Cabinet should immediately invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the President from office.

President Trump must be removed from office for inciting yesterday's violent insurrection.

I call on Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and begin the process of removing the powers of the presidency from Donald Trump. This is the quickest way to protect our domestic and national security.

Trump’s incitement to violence & mob action yesterday is indisputable. New York Times' headline says it all: "Trump Incites Mob"
— Senator Dick Durbin (@SenatorDurbin) January 7, 2021
The VP should immediately invoke the 25th Amendment. If the VP & Cabinet refuse to do their duty, Congress should reconvene to impeach the President.
https://t.co/Ox6OzYcAAu
Rather than taking the easy resign route, @VP Pence and the Trump cabinet should invoke the 25th amendment to save our country from this dangerous president.

The sun is up on a new day. But there must be accountability for yesterday:
— Tim Kaine (@timkaine) January 7, 2021
The Cabinet should invoke the 25th Amendment against Trump. If he wants to challenge, Congress should vote him out.
Congress should inform Trump that he is not welcome at the inauguration.
https://t.co/JsWnRYoJ9u
It’s painfully clear that President Trump remains an ongoing and immediate threat to our constitutional republic. He should either immediately resign or the Vice President should invoke the 25th Amendment. Absent that, I support Congress reconvening to impeach the President.

The Vice President and the Cabinet must invoke the 25th Amendment and end Donald Trump's seditious and authoritarian presidency today.

Trump is absolutely unfit and should be removed from office. If we can do it by Jan 20 by impeachment, I am all for it. The cabinet and VP can and should invoke the 25th Amendment TODAY. And there should be criminal investigations and prosecutions. Justice demands accountability.

A number of Administration officials are resigning in protest to Trump’s horrific acts of sedition yesterday. Not good enough! The Vice President and cabinet members must invoke the 25th amendment NOW and remove Trump from office before he incites more violence and chaos.

Trump is a danger to democracy itself. I took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. We must both initiate impeachment proceedings in the House and invoke the 25th Amendment. Our vigilance must increase, not wane, in the final days.

The quickest and most effective way—it can be done today—to remove this president from office would be for the Vice President to immediately invoke the 25th amendment.

If the Vice President and the Cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress must reconvene to impeach President Trump.

President Trump instigated yesterday’s seditious attack on our democracy and must be removed from office. Each day he remains in the White House is a threat to our country. VP Pence must invoke the 25th amendment. If he and the Cabinet won’t act, Congress should move to impeach.

This president is unfit to remain in office for the next 2 weeks. Every minute he’s in power, he continues to be a threat to our security. It’s time for the 25th Amendment.

He’s unfit.
He ought to go, by resignation, the 25th Amendment, or impeachment.
https://t.co/lV3eumHDKH
As I said last night Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy. His Cabinet must use the 25th amendment to act. And if Mike Pence and Trump’s “see-no-evil” Cabinet don’t have the stomach to do their duty, Congress should re-convene to impeach this dangerous man.

Stephens goes on in his column (which never saw light of day) to cite famous Lee Atwater quote that uses racial slur, and which NYT has cited “at least seven times.”
— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) February 11, 2021
"Is this now supposed to be a scandal?” he asks.
...
Four times. The column used the n-word (in the context of a quote) four times. https://t.co/14vPhQZktB
That is correct. In his draft he quotes Atwater using the word (4 times) and he does not redact it.
— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) February 11, 2021
For context: In 2019, a Times reporter was reprimanded for several incidents of racial insensitivity on a trip with high school students, including one in which he used the n-word in a discussion of racial slurs.
That incident became public late last month, and late last week, after 150 Times employees complained about how it had been handled, the reporter in question resigned.
In the course of all that, the Times' executive editor said that the paper does not "tolerate racist language regardless of intent.” This was the quote that Bret Stephens was pushing back against in his column. (Which, again, was deep-sixed by the paper.)
