THREAD - Qu'est ce que “Lifelog", le précurseur de Facebook ?

 Le projet Lifelog est une idée sortie du Pentagone. C'est un projet ambitieux visant à créer une base de données permettant de suivre l’existence entière d’une personne.
Dirigé par DARPA, le service de recherche du ministère de la Défense (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ), LifeLog visait à rassembler en un seul endroit à peu près tout ce qu’un individu dit, voit ou fait.
DARPA fonctionne comme la branche de recherche du ministère de la défense et est responsable de l'utilisation de l'argent des contribuables, dont on ne rend pas compte légalement, pour mener des opérations au noir, à l'abri des regards du public.
Les appels téléphoniques passés, les émissions de télévision regardées, les magazines lus, les billets d’avion achetés, les e-mails envoyés et reçus, tout y passait !
À partir de cet océan d’informations sans fin, les informaticiens pourraient tracer des routes distinctes dans les données, cartographiant les relations, les souvenirs, les événements et les expériences.
Les partisans de LifeLog ont déclaré que le journal global aurait pu se transformer en une mémoire numérique presque parfaite, donnant aux assistants informatisés de ses utilisateurs un souvenir presque sans faille de ce qu’ils avaient fait dans le passé.
Mais les défenseurs des libertés civiles se sont immédiatement jetés sur le projet lorsqu’il a été lancé, arguant que LifeLog pourrait devenir l’outil ultime pour dresser le profil des ennemis potentiels de l’État.
Le Pentagone a donc annulé son projet Lifelog.
Des chercheurs proches du projet disent qu’ils ne savent pas trop pourquoi il a été abandonné. DARPA n’a pas fourni d’explication de cette annulation silencieuse de LifeLog.
Jan Walker, porte-parole de l’agence, n’a donné qu’une seule raison à Wired News : ” Un changement de priorités“.
Bizarrement, le projet a été annoncé et annulé le jour même du lancement de Facebook. Quelle sacrée “coïncidence” !
Et depuis, Facebook, via sa société Menlo Park en Californie, a embauché un ancien chef du DARPA, pour diriger son nouveau laboratoire de recherche.
Mark Zuckerberg a annoncé le 14/04/2014 que Regina Dugan guiderait le bâtiment 8,un groupe de recherche qui développe des projets de matériel qui font progresser les efforts de l’entreprise en réalité virtuelle,réalité augmentée,intelligence artificielle et connectivité mondiale.
Dugan a été directrice du DARPA de 2009 à 2012. Plus récemment, elle a dirigé l’Advanced Technology and Projects Lab de Google, une branche expérimentale de l’entreprise chargée de développer de nouveaux produits matériels et logiciels selon un calendrier strict de deux ans.
Les grands médias ont célébré Zuckerberg comme l’enfant prodige qui s’est transformé en milliardaire grâce au succès de Facebook, mais ils n’ont pas prêté attention à “l’investissement de capital risque” de + de 40millions de $ effectué par la CIA pour développer le réseau social
La CIA a investi dans Facebook bien avant qu’il ne devienne l’un des réseaux sociaux les+populaires,selon une enquête du journaliste Tom Hodgkinson publiée en 2008 dans The Guardian et commentée par quelques médias indépendants,mais sans aucune répercussion dans la grande presse.
Walter Goobar dit : “c’est en réalité une expérience de manipulation globale : un outil sophistiqué financé par la CIA, qui l’utilise pour le recrutement d’agents et la compilation d’informations de long en large de la planète et pour monter des opérations sous couvert”
Le journaliste britannique Tom Hodgkinson a lancé un très fondé signal d'alerte sur la propriété CIA de Facebook, dans l'article documenté “With friends like these…” publié dans le journal londonien The Guardian le 14 janvier 2008.
Bien que le projet ait été initialement conçu par Mark Zuckerberg, star de la couverture médiatique, le vrai visage derrière Facebook est celui de Peter Thiel, 40 ans, capital-risqueur de la Silicon Valley et philosophe futuriste.
Il n'y a que trois membres du conseil d'administration de Facebook, et ce sont Thiel, Zuckerberg et un troisième investisseur appelé Jim Breyer d'une société de capital-risque appelée Accel Partners.
Thiel a investi 500 000 dollars dans Facebook lorsque les étudiants de Harvard Zuckerberg, Chris Hughes et Dustin Moskowitz sont allés le rencontrer à San Francisco en juin 2004, peu après le lancement du site.
Il posséderait aujourd'hui 7%de FB,ce qui vaudrait +d'un milliard $.Il y a beaucoup de débats sur qui étaient les co-fondateurs de FB,mais qui soient ils,Zuckerberg est le seul qui reste au conseil d'administration,bien que Hughes et Moskowitz travaillent toujours pour la société
Thiel est largement considéré dans la Silicon Valley et sur la scène du capital-risque américain comme un génie libertaire. Il est le co-fondateur et le PDG du système bancaire virtuel PayPal, qu'il a vendu à Ebay pour 1,5 milliard de dollars, s'appropriant ainsi 55 millions de $
Le mentor philosophique de Thiel est un certain René Girard de l'université de Stanford, partisan d'une théorie du comportement humain appelée désir mimétique. Girard estime que les gens sont essentiellement des moutons et qu'ils se copient les uns les autres sans trop réfléchir.
Cette théorie semble également s'avérer correcte dans le cas des mondes virtuels de Thiel : l'objet désiré n'a pas d'importance, il suffit de savoir que les êtres humains auront tendance à se déplacer en troupeau. D'où les bulles financières. D'où l'énorme popularité de Facebook.
Girard est un habitué des soirées intellectuelles de Thiel. Ce dont on n'entend pas parler dans la philosophie de Thiel, d'ailleurs, ce sont les concepts démodés du monde réel tels que l'art, la beauté, l'amour, le plaisir et la vérité.

adjusted for inflation, a $65 AJ1 in 1985 is like $160—and modern-day AJ1s are made from cheaper materials in factories staffed by cheaper workers. they don't HAVE to be $200 retail. but the secondary market nuked the whole concept of what sneakers are "worth"

My morning thought. I think what's most incompatible about the way I think and the journal article format as a means of capturing and validating thought is that I have a completely different sense of the relation between tentativeness, rigor, and informatic compression.

The characteristic Pete thought is: wait a minute, this whole area is dominated by an assumption that no one seems to be questioning, and I've got two options to express that: i) outline the logic of the issue in a quick and compressed way, ii) write a small book with references.

The discipline seems to want something in between these poles every single time, and this makes me extremely anxious because I feel (with good reason) like any partially referential engagement with the issue will get instantly torpedoed by anyone outside its referential remit.

To repeat something I've said before: I'm actually quite good at being *concise*, I just find it very hard to be *brief*, because most of the thoughts I have don't permit brevity. Consider what your (referential) reactions are to this brief piece:

We should stop confusing what someone was doing when we became aware of them with all they are capable of, interested in, or ever hope to be

Let folks have their many talents, interests and gifts. Life is far more fun with variety, loves.

A lot of folks have come to know me as an activist & I’m grateful that folks care to know me at all.

But I wasn’t born in 2014. I was a whole teacher, executive, policy person, speaker, arts and culture lover, reader, writer, woman of faith, fashion and more before 4 yrs ago 🤷🏾‍♀️

We rightfully complain that marginalized people are not allowed to be fully human.

But we internalize and transfer our oppression daily. It’s a smog. We all breathe it in & act it out.

And then tell WoC “girl ain’t you supposed to be a _______? Why you doing ____?”

Can I live?

And don’t go reading anything personal into this-this isn’t about me necessarily and it’s no subtweet (I try hard not to do that.)

I’ve just been observing that behavior more and more lately. Especially when it comes to marginalized folks.

Evolution should be our aspiration.

“Can’t knock the hustle” should be our anthem.

As long as someone isn’t bringing active and continual harm, why can’t they explore their many sides?

Gather round, Gentle Readers. It is time I tell the story of the worst decision I ever made in an office. Some of you have heard this. Some have not. Whatever you do in your office today, this week, the rest of this year, you can console yourself by recalling this tale.

A long time ago, I was a talent agent. I worked for a woman named Susan Smith, who had her own small boutique agency. She was known for three things:

1. She had fantastic taste in clients. If there is someone you admire, odds are good that at some point, she was their agent,

2. She could negotiate a deal like few who have ever trod the earth. Casting would give her all the money they had budgeted for that part, plus a little more, plus promising to get her dog Barnaby groomed. She was magnificent to watch.

3. She was insane.

I'm sure you're thinking, "Quinn, it's the entertainment industry, they are all insane." Yes, many are. So consider this; if you told someone you worked for Susan, people who worked for insane people would look and you and whisper, "I hear she's insane."

Fake chats claiming to be from the Irish African community are being disseminated by the far right in order to suggest that violence is imminent from #BLM supporters. This is straight out of the QAnon and Proud Boys playbook. Spread the word. Protest safely. #georgenkencho


There is co-ordination across the far right in Ireland now to stir both left and right in the hopes of creating a race war. Think critically! Fascists see the tragic killing of #georgenkencho, the grief of his community and pending investigation as a flashpoint for action.


Across Telegram, Twitter and Facebook disinformation is being peddled on the back of these tragic events. From false photographs to the tactics ofwhite supremacy, the far right is clumsily trying to drive hate against minority groups and figureheads.


Declan Ganley’s Burkean group and the incel wing of National Party (Gearóid Murphy, Mick O’Keeffe & Co.) as well as all the usuals are concerted in their efforts to demonstrate their white supremacist cred. The quiet parts are today being said out loud.


The best thing you can do is challenge disinformation and report posts where engagement isn’t appropriate. Many of these are blatantly racist posts designed to drive recruitment to NP and other Nationalist groups. By all means protest but stay safe.
