This year has been a strange one for films. Without the usual collection of major blockbusters filling theaters, there has been room for different movies. So far, i have seen 13 films from 2020 out of 130 that i find to be absolutely fantastic. That a 10% hit rate! In order:

1/13 The Forest Of Love: Deep Cut

I love Son Sionno's work. He's dark, stylish, japanese-crazy, and knows his music. The 5h long mini-series allows you to dive deeper into this insane story and enjoy all its weird characters and situations even more.
2/13 The Devil All the Time

This is a very brutal and grim film. It's graphic and violent to the point that it unsettled me. That's rare. Top performances for an incredible story with great cinematography and art direction.
3/13 Rogue City

French director Olivier Marchal is great. With a unique vision of law and order in France, he creates memorable characters that wander in a dark-grey world. This is a very well done action-thriller with an intricate political crime story.
4/13 Eurovision Song Contest

This is a silly film with its heart on its sleeves. It's over the top and yet, it's sweet and so funny. Maybe it's because i am French and watched many Eurovisions as a kid, but this film NAILS IT!!! The best comedy of 2020!
5/13 The Hunt
https://t.co/wrzqd0ds1e

It's an action-horror-satire that would have fit coming out of Australia in 1980. It keeps you guessing till the end, it's very well done, and its 2 leads are absolutely perfect!
6/13 Palm Springs

Time-loop movies, the good ones, are so much fun. This one is one of the best. It's creative, beautiful for such a film, and features 2 great leads. I watched it twice because it's so rich and so much is going on. It's also VERY funny.
7/13 Fatman

I LOVED it. It took me complete by surprise with its inventive script, memorable characters, top cast and very off-center premise, so effortlessly mixing real with fantasy that i was really confused for the first 30mn.
8/13 Da 5 Bloods

I love Spike Lee, his style, his characters. This is one of his better films with an engaging take on Vietnam, his usual bit of great music and interstitials, and one heck of a cast. Lindo deserves an Oscar.
9/13 The High Note

This is not the type of film, a family melodrama, that gets to me. But the cast is impeccable (Ellis Ross deserves an Oscar), the music is very engaging and the writing is nuanced enough to not fall into actual melodrama soup.
10/13 Extraction
https://t.co/hibeKuLuT5

The best hard-core action film of 2020. Great action filmed incredibly well, in a great setting. This is one immersive film that doesn't let up. Hemsworth is great, and the rest of the cast solid. The story is interesting enough too.
11/13 Greenland

Very tense film. Think of Spielberg's War Of The Worlds without aliens and the crazy budget. It's character focused and uses good-enough special effects only when needed. The cast does a better job than expected too. A surprise.
12/13 Sputnik

An Estonian film with a great sci-fi concept and an intriguing and very well executed creature. It's not an action film: it's slow as it focuses on characters and the politics of science in the ex-soviet block. But so what: it's great!
13/13 Boss Level
https://t.co/J4gINuzKUQ

This is the second time-loop film of 2020. With action wall to wall, it's a great sci-fi romp that doesn't take itself seriously and features a truly surprisingly great Frank Grillo. He can do action and comedy! A very enjoyable film!
