With previous news, and what broke on Thursday, we know at least the following:

In January 2021, outgoing sitting US President Trump personally stole documents. They were not packed by the General Services Administration. Trump personally packed boxes


Affidavit Day Thread 3/

In January while Trump was still President, his White House Chief Counsel, Patsy Baloney told Trump that Trump does not own government documents. Pat Cipollone also told the National Archives that he is aware these documents must be sent to Archives


Affidavit Day Thread 4/

Trump was asked nicely by National Archives, & then in ever more severe terms, for a year, to return documents. In Jan 2022 Trump returned 15 boxes of government documents. Among non-classified, but government property, DOJ found 184 classified documents


Affidavit Day Thread 5/

That Trump had kept 184 classified documents is a crime. The penalty would be 184 x 5 years = 920 years of prison time JUST on taking these classified documents without authorization (and keeping them)

That is before we consider Top Secret matters, etc

Quick thread on Bannon guilty verdict

Note. Bannon's trial was NOT about Jan 6th - he WILL face that trial too. This was about Bannon stupidly attempting to conceal his crimes

Let's do a quick Thread


First. Understand.. we know the 2 dozen organizers, plotters, planners of January 6th. They will ALL go to prison, for at least a decade, most for Life. Including the few who get plea bargains in the Grand #Flippathon

Bannon is one of original


But today Bannon's guilty conviction is a BONUS for us. He becomes literally the first of the January 6th ORGANIZERS to go to prison. And as a bonus, this is EXTRA time in prison Bannon serves, above and beyond his role in January 6th because of this attempt to conceal his crimes


Then consider what a catastrophic calamity this is for Bannon. He FEARS prison. He begged Trump for a pardon. He RECEIVED a pardon. And this he did AFTER his pardon, so his pardon does not shield Bannon from these new convictions, and prison time


Then look at Bannon's absurdly stupid destructive behavior during this trial. That is a public record. When his ACTUAL trial starts for January 6th, Bannon will have a history of defying the law - convicted twice - that is part of his record making his NEXT trial WORSE

As long as this Big Lie is not debunked by Trump, the GOP, and right-wing media, expect more political violence.

I wrote this piece b/c of statements like this from Graham. Yes, Trump finally conceded he will not be President but he refuses to tell his followers the truth: that he lost a legitimate election. If the GOP sees this as good enough, he will repeat the Big Lie for years to come.


It is unlikely that Trump will ever reject the Big Lie. But a willingness to do so serves as a reasonable criterion in assessing if GOP politicians and conservative media stand with American democracy or not. Some encouraging signs. https://t.co/Tqzj6l9MaK

1/ I am seeing more and more founder secondary in venture rounds (Secondary = founders selling some of their shares before some other shareholders are able). Series B-D. I see both as an investor and through entrepreneur circles.

2/ I like secondary for entrepreneurs. Moderation is key but in a lot of situations I think it helps accelerate the co. Lots of very smart investors disagree. Here are my thoughts.

3/ Magnitude: My basic rule of thumb from what I see is market is 4+ yrs and up to 10% of founder’s equity stake with some $ cap that makes sense given stage etc. (typically <$10m)

4/ The entrepreneurial journey is brutally hard. Giving some financial relief helps remove one piece of pressure. I don’t think that secondary in the magnitude mentioned impacts the drive/persistence of great entrepreneurs.

5/ That secondary means they will be able to just sleep knowing they can pay their kids’ tuition. Secondary will make most founders better at their jobs, thus accelerating the co.

Remember: Just because an idea is old doesn't mean it's good.

Knowing whether old ideas are more likely to be good requires understanding whether conditions have changed in important ways.

Horse archery was an amazing method of warfare for over a thousand years...then people invented guns, and suddenly this great idea that had stood the test of time became obsolete.

Then again, when underlying conditions don't change much, tried-and-true approaches are probably better.

"Learning the lessons of history" usually just means assuming ergodicity and stationarity in an informal time-series model...

So the cryptocurrency industry has basically two products, one which is relatively benign and doesn't have product market fit, and one which is malignant and does. The industry has a weird superposition of understanding this fact and (strategically?) not understanding it.


The benign product is sovereign programmable money, which is historically a niche interest of folks with a relatively clustered set of beliefs about the state, the literary merit of Snow Crash, and the utility of gold to the modern economy.

This product has narrow appeal and, accordingly, is worth about as much as everything else on a 486 sitting in someone's basement is worth.

The other product is investment scams, which have approximately the best product market fit of anything produced by humans. In no age, in no country, in no city, at no level of sophistication do people consistently say "Actually I would prefer not to get money for nothing."

This product needs the exchanges like they need oxygen, because the value of it is directly tied to having payment rails to move real currency into the ecosystem and some jurisdictional and regulatory legerdemain to stay one step ahead of the banhammer.
