[THREAD]
Sharjeel Imam tried to shake Indian Muslims out of their apathy asked them to hit the roads in protest against laws tht would snatch even their 2nd class citizenship from them(1/n)

Of course he is a powerful orator and was able to organise a remarkable marquee protest, at Shaheen Bagh which was the focal point of the entire Anti-CAA/NRC protests.

He proposed how we could come together and unite in our fight against the fascists.(2/n)
#ReleaseSharjeelImam
He suggested ways how we could use our numbers to force them to listen to our justified demands

But his speeches were maliciously edited and selectively trimmed to vilify him, to discredit his words and use him as another stick beat Muslims with. (3/n)

Libbus, Centrists & even many Muslims didnot miss the opportunity to throw him under the bus.

We've had instances of several Student leaders being targeted by this fascist regime 4 speaking up. 3 high profile cases are especially interesting & can be used as a case study..(4/n)
..on the hypocrisy of Libbus, centrists and what sarkari Muslims

He was strictly against the incumbent UPA/MMS govt and supported Modi to replace it. Joined JNU. Was/became interested in student politics and decided to contest elections(5/n)
as a leftist candidate. Won and became JNUSU president.
He clearly had political ambitions. Was pursuing PhD in African Studies.
When he was accused and arrested, Godi media vilified him, NDTV and other liberal, independent media glorified him.(6/n)

He became the face of resistance. The "Azadi" chant that he appropriated from Kashmiri protestors became known as "Kanhaiya slogan"

Everybody who gained their fame from their anti-Modi stand joined & supported him. Kunal Kamra,Swara Bhaskar, Even Umar Khalid & Kafeel Khan.(7/n)
But ever since losing the Lok Sabha election last year, Kanhaiya has been conspicuous by this absence and silence during all the oppression and brutality against Muslims. He spoke up only when JNU was attacked.(8/n)

𝟐. 𝐔𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝.
Umar came to National prominence alongwith Kanhaiya & was arrested along with him & another student leader, Anirban.
Umar, too,is a leftist. He has also claimed to be an atheist in past.Umar was also given attention,to a lesser degree, with Kanhaiya(9/n)
But he seems to be a more private person and doesn't seem to bask in the attention and premature glorification as Kanhaiya did.

He also doesn't seem to have as much political ambition.

He may be an atheist, but he still bears a Muslim name, given to him by his family.(10/n)
This Muslim name brought in a more vicious assault on his character from Godi media and the IT Cell. They claimed that he had been to Pakistan & trained in teππoπism to destroy India.

Bt the fact that he's an atheist, gave comfort to Libbus & they defended him sometimes..(11/n)
𝟑. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐣𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐦
Sharjeel did his BTech in CSE from IIT Bombay. Had offers from best corporations around the world. Even worked for a while in one.

But he didn't find fulfilment in it. He wanted to use his brilliantly gifted intellect for the good of humanity.(12/n)
He joined JNU for higher studies. Completed his masters and PhD.

When the fascists introduced the CAA bill (now Act) it sparked protests across the country against the discrimination being meted out to Muslims, both, citizens and refugees..(13/n)
#ReleaseSharjeelImam
Sharjeel saw that & hoped that this unity & audacity shown by Muslims would be sufficient to get us our rights if channelized properly.
But the "allies" were the first ones to discredit him & vilify him.
They don't want solutions, they want to have a perpetual cause. (14/n)
Hindu>Muslim name bearing Atheist>Practicing Muslim

We must unite and support each other or we will see days worse than we've already seen, Allah forbid.

1/ Here’s a list of conversational frameworks I’ve picked up that have been helpful.

Please add your own.

2/ The Magic Question: "What would need to be true for you

3/ On evaluating where someone’s head is at regarding a topic they are being wishy-washy about or delaying.

“Gun to the head—what would you decide now?”

“Fast forward 6 months after your sabbatical--how would you decide: what criteria is most important to you?”

4/ Other Q’s re: decisions:

“Putting aside a list of pros/cons, what’s the *one* reason you’re doing this?” “Why is that the most important reason?”

“What’s end-game here?”

“What does success look like in a world where you pick that path?”

5/ When listening, after empathizing, and wanting to help them make their own decisions without imposing your world view:

“What would the best version of yourself do”?
1/“What would need to be true for you to….X”

Why is this the most powerful question you can ask when attempting to reach an agreement with another human being or organization?

A thread, co-written by @deanmbrody:

2/ First, “X” could be lots of things. Examples: What would need to be true for you to

- “Feel it's in our best interest for me to be CMO"
- “Feel that we’re in a good place as a company”
- “Feel that we’re on the same page”
- “Feel that we both got what we wanted from this deal

3/ Normally, we aren’t that direct. Example from startup/VC land:

Founders leave VC meetings thinking that every VC will invest, but they rarely do.

Worse over, the founders don’t know what they need to do in order to be fundable.

4/ So why should you ask the magic Q?

To get clarity.

You want to know where you stand, and what it takes to get what you want in a way that also gets them what they want.

It also holds them (mentally) accountable once the thing they need becomes true.

5/ Staying in the context of soliciting investors, the question is “what would need to be true for you to want to invest (or partner with us on this journey, etc)?”

Multiple responses to this question are likely to deliver a positive result.
1/ Some initial thoughts on personal moats:

Like company moats, your personal moat should be a competitive advantage that is not only durable—it should also compound over time.

Characteristics of a personal moat below:

2/ Like a company moat, you want to build career capital while you sleep.

As Andrew Chen noted:

3/ You don’t want to build a competitive advantage that is fleeting or that will get commoditized

Things that might get commoditized over time (some longer than

4/ Before the arrival of recorded music, what used to be scarce was the actual music itself — required an in-person artist.

After recorded music, the music itself became abundant and what became scarce was curation, distribution, and self space.

5/ Similarly, in careers, what used to be (more) scarce were things like ideas, money, and exclusive relationships.

In the internet economy, what has become scarce are things like specific knowledge, rare & valuable skills, and great reputations.
