Successful investing comes down to how much investors make when they’re right and how much they lose when they’re wrong.

The worst thing that you can learn as an investor early in your journey is to take a reckless risk without much research, and make money
It would take you a lot of time and effort to unlearn that easy money exists in the markets

Just the journey of Bajaj Finance proves it why it is difficult to hold businessess. People with different mindsets (technincals) or deep value kept making noise throughout the last 6 years.. business did what it had to do. Only very few I know have held it firmly
Holding the right business, it is increasingly becoming clear to me is the most difficult thing to do unless you write down your investing philosophy and know it in your bones

Once in a while one should study the company which lacked the execution, which always over-promised and under delivered. Check how market valued it over the period of time. As it gives us the framework to avoid potential capital allocation mistakes i future. 🧪⚗️

While he considers you weak and inferior,
and takes no precautions against you,
you are using the time to catch up and surpass him.
This soft, permeable form of invasion is often the best,
for the enemy has nothing to react against, prepare for, or resist.

People that expect the worst of others, bring out the worst in themselves.
Whether negotiating, leading a team, or just having a coffee...expect good things.
How you approach every interaction matters. Your expectations always influence outcomes.

BABA:
*Slowing revenue growth/maturing e-com pen; rising competition and falling market share.
*40% decline in core profitability in 3Q21.
*Run-rate core P/E probably about 40x post SBC with further significant declines possible.
*Regulatory risks/headwinds.
*Still over-owned.
I've been arguing for a while now people have been using inappropriately low forward P/E multiples for BABA, often arguing it's on <20x 2021, excluding substantial SBC and failing to account the earnings risks & reasons why the stock has been going down in the first place.

Observing a lot of selling from employees of small & mid-cap IT companies; Recency bias or they know better?
A small mediocre IPO from the space got the attention of a superstar: Shuffling for a quick buck?
Haven’t the valuations baked in all positives?

Difference between wealth and money.
(a short 🧵 thread)
1/ As the oxygen crisis during 2nd covid wave in India has reiterated,
wealth = *stuff* we want
money = *numbers* in our bank
2/ Being wealthy is a matter of priorities, while being rich is a matter of luck and hard work.
3/ Our happiness and well being depends on the wealth we have, not the money.
One can have all the money in the world and still be miserable.
However if one has sufficient wealth, happiness is guaranteed (partly because that’s how wealth is defined).
4/ Here’s how to be wealthy without spending a dime:
- Exercise regularly
- Develop deep relationships
- Help other people
- Eat healthy
- Meditate
- Learn and develop skills
- Laugh
