Richard Nixon was President in 1969, having won the election of 1968 over Hubert Humphrey by only a half million votes out of 73 million cast. He won by .7%. But since Humphrey was part of the democratic party platform in support of the Vietnam war, neither party was against it.

This is why there were riots against both parties' conventions in 1968. As now, the entire country was against the war, but both parties were nonetheless for it. The press, being run by the CIA, was of course for the war, so what the people thought didn't really matter.

The press wasn't there to follow opinion, but to create it. Nixon and Humphrey had seen what had happened to [Republican contender] George Romney—Mitt Romney's dad—when he came out against the war. The press had crucified him.

After that, all of the candidates kept quiet about the war, although it was topic number one in 1968, or should have been.

Nixon took office in January of 1969. Hoover was head of the FBI then, as he had been since its founding in
1935. Both Nixon and Hoover hated the hippies with a passion and wished to destroy them. This is now part of
the public record, and we know it from declassified documents.

In just 6 weeks, the Covid Pass has transformed my country into a regime of control and segregation.

This is the new society created in Lithuania, the nation furthest along the path to the authoritarianism inevitably facing all countries which impose a Covid Pass regime:

The Covid Pass in Lithuania is called the "Opportunity Pass".

The Opportunity Pass allows you the opportunity to participate in society.

Without the Opportunity Pass, you don't have opportunity: your rights are restricted.

My wife and I don't have the Covid Pass.

We refuse to accept the authoritarianism and control of the new regime.

So we've lost our jobs and been banished from most of society.

It's been 6 weeks so far. There is currently no end date planned for the new regime.

With no Pass, we may only enter small shops with street entrances which mainly sell essential goods: food, pharma, optics, or farm/pet goods.

This convenience store meets the requirements, so we may enter.

Every other store must, by law, ban people without the Pass.

In Lithuanian, the Pass is called "Galimybių pasas", abbreviated as "GP".

"GP" signs are now ubiquitous at stores and public buildings to signal compliance with the policy of banishment.

Did a talk to a student organisation today on Covid mandates. I made a few points:

1.There is no scientific argument for vaccine mandates. The strongest case science makes is that vaccine mandates may prevent serous disease and death in older people and people with co-morbidities. The decision to impose mandates is a social and political one.

2.The benefits of vaccine mandates at universities are hard to quantify, it is not at all clear that the benefits will outweigh the cost.

3.Vaccine mandates are a system of reward and punishment. If you vaccinate you can keep your job or attend class, if you don’t you lose your job or an education. Reward and punishment is how you deal with children, not adults with agency.

4.The 74% of South Africans who are not vaccinated are not children, either they have not been persuaded by the authorities or they have not had the opportunity. It’s wrong to imagine that they are stupid, or worse rabid reactionaries.

In 1993, The World Economic Forum created the Young Leaders program. The aim of this program was to identify & promote future global leaders.

65-74 years: 144,020 (.36% of total cases)

•TOTAL DEATHS account for 1.6% of total cases.
•78.1% of TOTAL DEATHS are over the age of 65.
•94.7% of TOTAL DEATHS are over the age of 50.

•94% of TOTAL DEATHS have an average of 2.9 co-morbidities (12/6/20).

If you’re flying back into the country, you’ll need to show a negative PCR test result before you board the plane. When you land, you’ll need to take another PCR test. You’ll then have to wait at an approved hotel, and at your own expense, for your results to come back.

If your results come back negative for COVID-19, you’ll be able to head home and finish your mandatory quarantine there. If your test results come back positive, you’ll need to immediately quarantine in designated government facilities. This is not optional.

If you’re returning through our land border, you’ll need to show a negative PCR test result that was taken within the past 72 hours. On top of that, you’ll have to take a PCR test when you arrive - and you’ll have to take another one toward the end of your 14-day quarantine.

The tragic events in #Palma, #CaboDelgado #Mozambique, over the last few days have major implications for peace and security on the Swahili coast of East #Africa. Herewith some thoughts in a mega thread -->

This is an insurgency that has been snowballing since October 2017. It started attacking in the form of small groups of young men, brandishing mainly blunt weapons, and attacking remote security posts. It has evidently now grown into something much more serious.

Recently the U.S. sanctioned the group and called it an affiliate of #IslamicState. By doing so, the group has now been elevated into a box where policy solutions designed to deal with this problem will now be partially framed or qualified by that designation.

If you peer a bit closer, you will see that the insurgency did not come from nowhere. In fact it has grown out of historical factors, out of grass roots grievances, and has developed partially along ethnic lines before becoming the monster it is today.

The insurgents, known by locals as "Al-Shabaab" (or "the youth") are a mixed bunch, and include foreigners, mainly Tanzanians, but you can see domestic constituencies. Many are coastal Mwani youth, or Makwa men, from the west and southern hinterlands of Cabo Delgado.
