This week marks the 33 yrs since the First Intifada began. First Intifada was a sustained series of Palestinian protests, and in some cases violent riots, against the Israeli occupation. 3 decades later, the struggle for Palestinian freedom continues!

 The intifada began on 9 Dec 1987 in the Jabalia refugee camp after an Israeli Defense Forces(IDF) truck collided with a civilian car, killing four Palestinian workers, three of whom were from the Jabalia refugee camp...1/n
The Palestinian response was characterized by protests, civil disobedience, and violence. There was graffiti, barricading and widespread throwing of stones and Molotov cocktails (petrol bomb) at the IDF and its infrastructure within the West Bank and Gaza Strip...2/n
These contrasted with civil efforts including general strikes, boycotts of Israeli Civil Administration institutions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, an economic boycott consisting of refusal to work in Israeli settlements on Israeli products, and refusal to pay taxes...3/n
Israel deployed some 80,000 soldiers in response. Israeli countermeasures, which initially included the use of live rounds frequently in riots, were criticized as disproportionate. The IDF's rules of engagement were also criticized as too liberally employing lethal force...4/n
In the Intifada's first year, IDF killed 311 #Palestinians, of which 53 were under the age of 17. Over 6 yrs the IDF killed an estimated 1,162–1,204 Palestinians. Almost 120,000 Palestinians were arrested, 481 were deported while 2500 had their houses razed to the ground...5/n
One journalistic calculation reports that in the Gaza Strip alone from 1988 to 1993, some 60,706 Palestinians suffered injuries from shootings, beatings or tear gas. The Swedish branch of Save the Children estimated that "23,600 to 29,900 children required medical treatment...6/n
treatment for their injuries in the first two yrs of the Intifada", one third were under the age of 10.

Intra-Palestinian violence was also a prominent feature of the Intifada, with widespread executions of an estimated 822 #Palestinians killed as alleged Israeli collaborators!
Under Israel's then defence minister Yithzak Rabin's orders, Israeli army commanders were instructed to break the bones of Palestinian protestors. Today this policy has evolved to specifically target the knees and legs of Palestinian youth to physically disable them...8/n
Outcomes:
The Intifada was recognized as an occasion where the Palestinians acted cohesively and independently of their leadership! There was unprecedented international coverage, and the Israeli response was criticized in media outlets and international fora!...9/n
The large no of Palestinian casualties provoked international condemnation. The Security Council demanded Israel cease deportations of Palestinians. In November 1988, Israel was condemned by a large majority of the UN General Assembly for its actions against the Intifada...10/n
According to Mubarak Awad, a Palestinian American psychologist, The Intifada was a protest against Israeli repression including "beatings, shootings, killings, house demolitions, uprooting of trees, deportations, extended imprisonments, and detentions without trial"...11/n
Today Palestinians are again demanding the justice, freedom and equality, the same demands of Palestinians which rose 30 years ago.

Kathakali, an art form of Kerala originated here.


Temple Vigraham was stolen 3-4 times, but because of power of Devi all the attempts were failure. Police records says that Whenever the thieves try to steal, they lose their senses, and they will be in a confused state. So they will abandon the idol.

Return on Equity (#ROE) and Return on Capital Employed (#ROCE) are two important Financial Ratios used in #FundamentalAnalysis of Stocks.

Return on Equity (ROE) is the ratio of Net Income (Net Profit) of a company and it’s Total Equity (Shareholder's Equity).

Here - Shareholders Equity = Share Capital + Reserves & Surplus.

#ROE is a measure of how much net profit a company is making for every rupee invested by its shareholders in the company.

It can be said that higher the ROE, better it is for the equity shareholders. It tells shareholders about how effectively their money is being used.

However, you should not trust high ROE blindly. Biggest drawbacks or weaknesses of ROE is that it completely ignores debt.

Hence for companies having high levels of debt, ROE will give a higher but misleading value & therefore we need to look at #ROCE along with #ROE.

Always. No, your company is not an exception.

A tactic I don’t appreciate at all because of how unfairly it penalizes low-leverage, junior employees, and those loyal enough not to question it, but that’s negotiation for you after all. Weaponized information asymmetry.

And by the way, you should never be worried that an offer would be withdrawn if you politely negotiate.

I have seen this happen *extremely* rarely, mostly to women, and anyway is a giant red flag. It suggests you probably didn’t want to work there.

You wish there was no negotiating so it would all be more fair? I feel you, but it’s not happening.

Instead, negotiate hard, use your privilege, and then go and share numbers with your underrepresented and underpaid colleagues. […]

Stories of Guruvayurappan

This is a beautiful story of Guruvayurappan. Once there lived in Guruvayur a poor family. Kitta, his wife & kids were struggling for their daily needs. With only a coconut tree in house, he earned a living by selling coconuts.


Kitta was from a low caste family. He was a great devotee of Guruvayurappan. Everyday before going to work he always prayed infront of a picture of Guruvayurappan in his house. His only wish was to worship at Guruvayur & have annadanam in temple. But he was not allowed there


It was Utsavam time in Guruvayur. From far behind kitta and family worshipped Guruvayurappan. Annadanam was given daily and no one was left empty stomach. Only Kitta didn't receive. That night, it was only Kitta's family who was sleeping without food. After temple nada closed


Shri Krishna, dressed himself as a Brahmin went to temple Kitchen. He packed food and went directly to kitta's house. Reaching Kitta's house, Shri Krishna told he was sent by a cook of Guruvayur temple and gave them the food he packed. Kitta and family was very happy seeing food.


When Kitta finished his food, Brahmin asked it will be better if he get a tender coconut( karikku)to drink. Kitta climbed the tree and gave all coconuts to him. After having 1 tender coconut, the Brahmin asked to bring remaining coconuts to Guruvayur temple the next day.
