Good afternoon! Today, @JakeLahut and I will be live-blogging the joint session of Congress to count slates of presidential electors, led by @VP Pence, where we expect GOP lawmakers to object to multiple states presidential electors for the first time

In addition to my explainer on the Electoral Count Act process for objecting to electors from yesterday, which you should go check out, here’s a little thread rundown of what we can expect to see today

As a quick terminology note, you may see some places refer to today’s events as “certification,” but Congress isn’t really certifying anything — they’re just counting slates of electors that have already been certified in the states

Pence’s role is purely procedural. There will be four tellers, two from each party, who will read out every state’s certificate of their electoral votes out of a special box. Unless one member from each chamber raises an objection, the states’ slate of electors is accepted

Per reporting from @poliitco and other outlets, it seems like the GOP has enough support from representatives and senators to object to slates of Biden electors from Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania (could be more or fewer depending on how the day goes)

Irish folks, this problem isn't just "over there" - w/ the 45% of Republican voters who were OK with this, a president and elected reps who called for it, police who facilitated it and media who are busy spinning it.

The far right is here too.

There are lots votes in Ireland for anti-Traveller candidates, airtime and column inches for far-right and fundamentalist pundits (and Steve Bannon), Guards who treat black and left protestors v differently to the far right. And Trump fans.

Many of the worst Republicans (and many of the cops) in the States are Irish. And US right-wing money pours into our own Youtube etc. grifters and anti-abortion fundis.

And Co. Clare holds a particular place in Trump's heart (and US military transport).

We are this.

Most importantly: here as there, anti-racists and anti-fascists have spent years telling you: these ppl are dangerous.

They have convictions for violence, they work w/ loyalists, UK and Euro fascists, they assault ppl and call for violence.

But you don't listen.

"Both sides" are a problem seemingly. Protesting fascists is as bad as being a fascist. The marketplace of ideas will solve all this. The Guards are impartial and there are bound to be reasons for ... whatever.

Anything rather than listen to ppl who actually know about it.

President Trump and cyber-security teams learned that, just before he left office in January 2017, Obama stole $400 million of U.S. taxpayer's money (14 pallets of cash) originally intended as payment for Iran, and redirected it to Prime Minister Renzi and the Rome Embassy.

U.S. Cyber-security teams ***tracked the exact routes of that cash*** The cash was distributed to several accounts and used to fund the electronic vote switching using Italian military satellites operated by Leonardo, an Italian aerospace, defense and security company.

William J. Lynn III is the CEO of Leonardo DRS, a U.S. subsidiary of Leonardo. He previously served under the Obama/Biden administration as Deputy Secretary of Defense & led the Department's efforts in cybersecurity & space strategy.

The election day operation was orchestrated by Stephan Serafini, a 20-year foreign service officer, and General Claudio Graziano, a board member of Leonardo.

I've worked in IT for a few decades. The 2020 election is fraudulent. No one explained the core of the fraud, the configuration of the servers. I'm talking best practices
USB ports are disabled on every server and on many workstations to protect data and prevent intrusions.

Logs are reports of events on server functionality visible on screen or in print. Levels of users are defined w/ permissions. Administrators have full control over the server and software. They can read, edit, and write code or change internal server settings.

Next, there are Power Users. A Power User can't install new software. Others can read but can’t change anything. Access is severely limited. If the server is configured correctly their NAMES are visible.

Login are multifactor. Logs also show any intrusion attempts and can show the IP address (unique set of numbers identifying every computer) if the server is configured to do this. You can backtrack using the IP to identify the location of intruder.

Logs show backup schedules and data loss. Given the sensitivity of the data, assume a full backup. A couple of ways to do this. Another identical server, or the Cloud or RAID – Random Array of Inexpensive Disks. RAID disks located in the server itself capture pieces

How Patriots Get Played:

1. @KelemenCari reposts an image from @brettlewis to her followers that she did not fact check. Similar to mainstream media. Just get it out there, fact check later.

Can we do a confessional? During the insurrection/riot/seige, I was apprehensive about the narrative taking hold that the police officers just kinda welcomed these shitbags into the Capitol. It seemed to reflect some of what I saw, but also not all of what I saw.

But then I made a joke about it, despite the fact that we were in the middle of knowing what happened and I knew I was, of course, getting a very select view of what was happening. I did this for two reasons:

First, because it is absolutely true that the situation would have been very different if those people hadn’t been white. That’s just the case. I knew that then, I know that now. It makes me very angry.

Second, because it felt like everyone else was doing it. And this is the thing, you only see what people are saying on here, you don’t see what people aren’t saying. I thought, “even though I don’t really know what’s going on, I’m not gonna get any hate for this.” Which was true.

And maybe third, because I thought the joke was funny. But, and please let’s all agree to this, just because a joke is funny doesn’t mean it should be tweeted.

As chair of the House Appropriations subcommittee that oversees the Capitol Police, I want to offer a few updates on the investigation taking place into Capitol Police and the violent insurrection that took place on Wednesday at our nation’s Capitol.

First and foremost, I am very upset and heartbroken over the murder of Officer Sicknick who passed away after an altercation with violent protesters on Weds. It’s become increasingly clear that rank &file members of the Cap Police were lead into an incredibly dangerous situation.

The vast majority of Capitol Police officers bravely defended our nation’s Capitol and put their lives on the line to protect Members of Congress and our historic Capitol building.

Meanwhile, there was an epic failure of intelligence/ preparation among leadership in the department. The Capitol Police Chief & House Sergeant at Arms have resigned, an important step to fully uncover the failures of this event & reestablish trust in the security on Cap. Hill.

As for disturbing videos we’ve all seen that seem to show some officers letting rioters behind barricades & taking selfies with them: I can assure you these videos are being thoroughly investigated & there will be consequences for any deviations from proper training & protocols.

I'll tell you why the English have ignored the fact that Scotland voted remain.
It's because they're trying to subordinate the idea of Scotland to nominally the United Kingdom, but effectively to England.

The English dominate the United Kingdom in Parliament. The English have got a virtual monopoly on the government of the United Kingdom. They pretend they don't, but they do.

The thing is, Brexit is the only time the dominance of England over the United Kingdom has been tested.
And the English have quite evidently failed.

If there was any truth to the English illusion of the United Kingdom, they would have never imposed this English nationalist Brexit on Scotland.

And I don't think any previous government would have ever dreamed of doing this.

On Thursday morning, The Dispatch published our first-ever editorial calling for the impeachment & removal of President Trump.

It's a principled case, driven by a desire for justice & w/concerns for the future (immediate and distant) at its core.

People can disagree with our case. Some folks we respect surely do. We’ve lost some members over it – including of the Founding Lifetime variety at $1500 a pop.

We’d gladly publish the same editorial again today. It’s become more urgent – not less – that Trump is removed.

Hewitt chose not to engage our arguments, opting instead to claim it’s all “a punitive mission based on cable talking heads ‘hot takes.’” He insists, w/o evidence, that to those who favor impeachment the views of Trump’s 74 million voters “do not matter.”

Well then.

So ... a quick recap.

1) There was *massive* voter fraud.
2) Republicans claimed they wouldn't stand for it, and object to the illegal electoral votes.
3) A handful of people (most probably Antifa) gained access to what *should* be a highly guarded building. >>>

4) Some chaos ensues for a few hours, but not a single person was hurt or killed (inside the Capitol, that is)
5) And all of a sudden, this causes our once fierce Republicans to drop their objections, and agree to a stolen election.

1) It seems the Washington Police *helped* the so-called "protesters" to gain access to the Capitol --- it's not the first time the DC Police Force acts *against* the interests of Trump.

3) There's footage around that seems to suggest the mayhem in the Capitol was staged.

4) And, most interestingly: Trump leaves a *pre-recorded* message on Twitter, that almost immediately gets an entirely *new* Twitter-warning, stating this message shouldn't even be retweeted. Why? Because the message *proves* Trump *knew exactly* what was going to happen.

Every Republican active in politics during the Trump era should be remembered based only on where they drew the line.

Did they draw the line at his openly racist immigration platform?

Did they draw the line when Trump mocked a disabled reporter?
