I suppose I need to do a proper thread about this Durham filing folks are losing their minds over. OK, here goes.

First, virtually none of what appeared in the recent filing from Durham’s office is new information. Here’s a New York Times story from *over four months ago* with basically all of it.

Second, nothing in the filing supports breathless claims technically illiterate cable hosts are making. It does not allege anyone “hacked” Trump computers, or was paid to “infiltrate” networks, or that anyone “intercepted e-mails and text messages."

Here’s a simplified version of what it does say, again, virtually all of which was reported in an obscure little alternative news outlet called The New York Times back in September.

A Virginia-based tech company called Neustar, which provides a variety of Internet registry & security services, had lawful access to databases of government DNS data as part of a contract to monitor for malware & cyberattacks, which was provided to Georgia Tech researchers.

I'm on hold with the WA Dept. of Revenue -- have been for an hour! -- so I might as well tweet a thread while I wait. Let's talk about two different ways of conceiving legitimacy. What is its source? From whence does legitimacy derive?

One way to see it: moral & social legitimacy derive from a set of principles that apply to to all tribes & factions alike. A tribe's actions are legitimate insofar as they accord with those principles. So, eg, "it's bad to torture," no matter who's doing the torturing.

Another way to see it: moral & social legitimacy inhere *in the tribe itself*. Some tribes are "good" -- chosen by God, genetically superior, derived from the right bloodline, whatever -- & some aren't. The legitimacy of an act derives from *who did it*.

So in this latter way of thinking, if a bad tribe tortures members of a good tribe, it's bad. But if a good tribe tortures members of a bad tribe, it's ok, ie, legitimate, *because the tribe is good*. Actions in pursuit of the interests of the good tribe are inherently good.

Buried in this GA GJ order is a big-deal sentence: “This authorization shall include the investigation of any … predicate acts….” This authorizes a RICO racketeering investigation that reaches Trump’s illegal actions everywhere! GA has a nuclear weapon!

I have no doubt this sentence did not get there by accident. Fani Willis wanted RICO powers because she is dealing with a serial criminal. That is what RICO statutes are for. And Ms. Willis strikes me as someone who has no fear of bringing down our mobsters former POTUS!
