A THREAD ON HOW BIDEN WON THE ELECTION: This is for all the people that don’t understand how Biden could possibly win and why Trump lost other than the fact that he just did so much wrong #WeirdoTrump

First, we have to realize that all of Trumps lawsuits aren’t actually claiming fraud. He’s trying overturn the elections in court through technicalities within mail-in voting because he knows that he lost the mail in votes by an extensive margin.

On election night, Trump tried to prematurely claim victory due to the fact that most states counted in person ballots first, then early and then mail in. Trump knew this and was trying to make it seem that the results on election night represented the country as a whole /2

when it really just represented those who voted in person on Election Day, which tends to favor republicans heavily. Trump knew this would happen and knew that his numbers would dwindle throughout the next few days when mail-in and early ballots would begin to be counted. /3

Nearly all counting, opening, and scanning rooms had cameras available to the public. His few claims of fraud are based on little video evidence but rather what people say. Which would be trustworthy, if they claimed fraud in court, which they don’t. He has used all of these /4

THREAD/ Taliban's messaging/ approach to Biden admin's policy review:

Taliban repeating their view of Doha deal: smoothed the way for US to leave after "unsuccessful" 20-year intervention. A "safe passage" deal.

The more Taliban insist they are meeting deal's conditions, the less need for a "review." Almost as if to pre-argue a US policy shift. /2

But no Western official or international audience is convinced by Taliban claims alone. Even Taliban can't believe that.

Who is Taliban's audience, as they display rigidity on the deal's terms and insist their interpretation is justified? /3

Perhaps Taliban reached a point where offering compromise/ flexibility to US on withdrawal would be perceived as too weak among its own ranks.

Or the interpretation & expectation of a swift return to power was genuine - and everything US did the past year seems like welching. /4

Or, regardless of internal discourse, current Taliban assessment could be that US/NATO will not leave by May deadline.

Since US does not seem to have begun re-negotiating or bargaining on a withdrawal extension, Taliban might feel boxed in by that, obliged to posture. /5

Clock ticking. 2 years until Republicans can take back both houses of Congress. The most important branch of government is not Congress or the presidency. It's the judiciary for they have life appointment. Mitch McConnell understood this

With Biden preparing to take office today, a short reflection about being in higher ed teaching media courses the past four years: 1/

One of the core memories I have of the 2016 campaign were the class discussions. Most of my students feared Trump winning, but didn’t think it’d happen. He was a clown. Voters weren’t that dumb. Etc. 2/

What that belief did is create space for privilege that came out in discussions (bear in mind a lot of my students are white). I had a *lot* of students disaffected and ambivalent about the choice. They didn’t read political coverage. Both sides were the same. A lot of that. 3/

The morning after the election, I had a lot of distraught students. I had about 15 in a class of 30 email me that they weren’t sure they could come to class that. I was distraught myself. I couldn’t blame them.

So I want to tell you a story I haven’t told anyone before. 4/
