There's a lot to be said about the traffic stop of Lieutenant Caron Nazario, but one of them is that it makes this 2015 blog post unfortunately relevant again:
"Sandra Bland and the 'Lawful Order’ Problem."
(Given the paywall, I'll include screenshots.)

In this case, one of the (many) problems was that the officers were coming in with one view of their lawful order authority and Lt. Nazario very understandably had no idea of what that was. Here's why.

A late night observation, as the House debates the American Rescue Plan.
My Republican colleagues keep justifying their opposition to this desperately needed, wildly popular relief bill by repeating one particular lie.
It's about state and local funding. Here's the deal--
1/
All night House Republicans have called the American Rescue Plan "a blue state bailout," "corrupt," "a progressive wish list," it only spends "9% of its funds" on relief.
They couldn't be more wrong. States and localities are on the front lines of this pandemic and need help. 2/
Nearly a year ago the team of economists and policy analysts I lead at @JECDems identified federal aid to state and local governments as a crucial need to contain the pandemic. Republicans ignored us. State budget deficits - and case counts - exploded. 3/
State and local revenues got crushed early on as businesses closed. Some have seen recent improvement, especially states, but many are still hurting badly. https://t.co/UAeLuTbOP4
It's hitting services and public sector jobs across the country hard. 4/
This has led to massive budget cuts to services like mental health and the social safety net that protects the most vulnerable. Public health is a big part of state and local budgets, especially Medicaid. Two other major expenses seeing big budget cuts: education and transit 5/

I’ve been watching the right-wing narrative regarding the Jan. 6 insurrection with keen interest, and realizing that the American right again intends to resort to its well-worn “waving the bloody shirt” gambit. A thread about what that will mean.
We all know the phrase and its meaning: Someone who “waves the bloody shirt” is a demagogue whose rhetoric callously recalls violent incidents for the purpose of scoring cheap political points. /2
The phrase originated during the Reconstruction era following the Civil War. In the early years, white terrorists from armed paramilitary groups like the Ku Klux Klan roamed the Southern countryside intent on terrorizing black people and anyone assisting them. /3
Preventing blacks from voting was the primary focus of the terrorists. Their reputation for threatening people at the polls themselves was well established. /4
During this period, some 3,000 black freedmen would be murdered in the South. The majority were people lethally attacked at their homes—shot through windows and doors, and at other times lynched. /5

Texas isn't the first state Republiqans have destroyed. Does anyone remember what happened to Kansas? It wasn't a sudden disaster like this, it was a slow collapse, intentionally engineered.
This is what they do, one way or another. Any red state that hasn't collapsed yet, will.
Kansas ran an experiment in Republiqan economic theory, implementing all the tax cuts, deregulation and government service eliminations Republiqans have been pushing for. *Everything* collapsed. Duh.
This is what they do. They came this close =>||<= to doing it to America.
It still could happen to the nation as a whole, rolling through states, and then having Fascists re-seize control in Washington and implementing feudal-type monarchical disregard for everyone who isn't a Noble Lord. That's their goal.
Texas wasn't a mistake. It was a trial run.
I didn't include Flint, only because it wasn't state-wide, but Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are very close to collapse. So is Florida. And I'm sure you can all think of other red states that are on life
Now, imagine what will happen when multiple red states collapse at the same time, all needing massive federal bailouts.
Imagine Republiqans control the House, Senate and White House at that time, and have neither the competence nor the desire to help.

On 1/6, hours before Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, US Park Police monitoring rallygoers at the Washington Monument were already feeling overwhelmed
Officers arrested a man for breaching the barriers. In response, a woman yells "Antifa, let him go"
https://t.co/RXOQrIsF8h
In another TikTok video before he was taken away, a Trump supporter murmurs about the police “...rush them. There's more of us than them."
"You piece of shit," they yell. "You wouldn't do this to Antifa or BLM!"
Officers there said the hostility caused them to huddle up inside a visitor screening room. Trump fans carrying Stop the Steal signs then banged against the glass
Aided by USPP on horses, the group got their "butts out of there" before things got worse by sneaking out the back
USPP has been plagued by chronic issues
After their role in violently clearing peaceful protesters from Lafayette Square last June, their union wrote to Congress asking for reforms, stating they “lack the staffing to implement crowd control effectively” https://t.co/RXOQrIsF8h
