teaching kids that using the wrong pronouns makes people suicidal is conditioning them to feel that way, and to take this action extremely personally. what would the trans community look like it we taught kids to be resilient and strong, and not care what people call them?

the message received is 'people who don't use your pronouns want you to kill yourself', which is just not true. but how should a kid in a high control group know that? imagine being a teen and thinking that every time your parents call you 'she', they mean they want you to die.

if we changed the message to 'not everyone will respect your preferred pronouns, and you can't control how people refer to you. but that shouldn't stop you from being yourself and referring to yourself however you want to' - would we see a decrease in suicidal feelings?

if the answer is yes, could there be a reason why this community doesn't /want/ kids to be confident and self assured? could it be that the constant push towards suicidality, and in particular the idea that validation prevents suicide, might create a dependency on the group?

Something didn’t seem right to me. I had that feeling astronomers must have when they’re scanning the skies for black holes, looking for the point around which everything behaves strangely.

When I looked at trans activism, everything around it behaved strangely.

Maybe it started with “transwomen are women.” Whenever I asked what that meant, I found a great many people who either didn’t know or didn’t care what it meant and yet thought it was a very important thing for people to say they believe.

That wasn’t reassuring.

Or maybe it started when I first heard that abortion was no longer a women’s issue. This was news to me. I thought back to my unplanned pregnancy: one of the parties involved in that debacle could have walked away, but I didn’t have that option. That mattered.

The week I went through with my abortion, Purvi Patel appealed her 20-year sentence for inducing a miscarriage after the state had backed her into a corner. That mattered. No man has ever been backed into a corner in that way.

If abortion isn’t a women’s issue, what is?

Dear "educate yourself" brigade, we have and if anything we are more conhinced than ever than female ppl exist as a coherent sex class, have rights that can exclude male ppl, that gender is a patriarchal imposition that should be discarded as much as possible.
