#SubramaniaBharati Birth Anniversary: On 8 Oct 1927 in the Madras Legislative Council S Satyamurti initiated his famous Adjournment Motion on the seizure by the Madras Police of Subramania Bharati's songs.During his long speech, by a master stroke of delicate circumvention,

took up several songs of Bharati and recited them in the House, praising the as great piece of literature. Among the poems he read were "Vande Mataram" and coming to the concluding lines, he admonished the Treasure Bencheas thus:

....I commend these lines to the particular attention of the Hon.the Law Member & the Chief Minister and the Home Member. If we ae united we can live; if we are not united we are all equally humiliated, Treasure Bench & Opposition alike

Thus the words of Subramania Bharati were heard in the Council and next day printed in the newspapers...
