Senator Murkowski announces she is voting against “a good man” out of concern for the integrity of our institutions. If one believes he’s guilty a no vote is required. If one believes he’s a good man, that’s a weird vote. Our institutions should vindicate good people.
I continue to believe good people have come to differing conclusions about this case. We are all human and have fallible judgments. Criminal trials have a higher standard of proof becuse taking away liberty or even life is so profound. Here we had a lower, unspecified standard
which naturally lends itself to greater disagreement. Whatever happens tomorrow, we still have to strive to be neighbors and friends.
