The Republican Party doesn't understand the situation it is in. The blowback for what happened on January 6th has only begun. There is no way any politician or political organization even remotely connected to the incident can come out of this with their reputations intact. 1/

The smart ones are already trying to perform acts of contrition but even they are miscalculating. They are not going far enough. Not even close. 2/

I’m not talking about how it might be a little more difficult to do fundraising in the future. I’m talking about fraternal organizations expelling members; professional credentials being revoked; companies cutting business ties; forced resignations from positions of authority. 3/

Not to mention the actual legal prosecutions and civil lawsuits they will have to face. There will be many. Some of them will succeed. 4/

And then there’s the response from the actual voters themselves. The Democrats are going to be able to hold this over the Republican’s heads for YEARS TO COME. This will not have all blown over by mid-terms in 2022 or even by the next presidential election in 2024. 5/
