The Trump appointed federal judge in Florida just ruled she should have unprecedented “equitable jurisdiction” to appoint a special master because Trump’s reputation needs to be protected.

The judge didn't have jurisdiction.

And Trump doesn't have standing, because the feds took property that was THEIRS, not his.

I want to tell a story. When I was in like 3rd grade, I went with my mom while she dropped some drugs off (yes, she was). Anyways. She left me in the car. This guys comes out to “watch” me and it’s just me and him. He looks over and asks. “You don’t know what a haiku is, do you?”

I responded “yeah, it’s a traditional Japanese poem consisting of 3 lines and in the pattern of 5-7-5 syllables.” I remember I had just written one in class. He freaked out and told me I was the smartest person he has ever met. I was literally like 8.

Anyways. On that day he vowed to make sure I always made it to school. My mother was in her own world, doing and dealing drugs. When I tell you this guy drove me and picked me up so he KNEW I went everyday.. he literally did my homework with me.

He took me to all the important things in my life. He became family. The closest thing to a father figure I’ve ever had honestly. He was my best friend. He saved my life. Tonight I got a call from his sister. He died unexpectedly from a (possible) heart attack @ around 1am.

I woke up last night. At 1 am on the dot. I literally could not fall back asleep, so I laid there until 4. And then got up and went to lab. They tried reviving him from 1-4am. It’s like in some weird way my body felt that energy. I just didn’t know.

I’ve covered student debt obsessively for the past 6 years for a documentary (coming soon!). One of the most misunderstood parts of this debate is: folks with graduate degrees. Many seem to think this group is all rich (or soon to be). This is weird & incorrect.

You realize that teachers & nurses have graduate degrees, right? Do you think they’re rich? One teacher we spoke with is a 1st-generation college grad, now 150k in debt from compounding interest on his undergrad + masters degrees. The burden got so bad, he contemplated suicide.

Then there’s veterinarians. Do you know their average student debt is ~200k? Not nightmare or worse-case scenario. Average. They don’t become wealthy either. Their suicide rates are very high in part because of debt. Does anyone think veterinarians are frivolous parts of society?

Now let’s talk about the biggest bogeyman: lawyers & doctors. This may come as a shock but not all lawyers go to school to defend oil companies. Some want to be public defenders or work in civil rights. Their degrees cost hundreds of thousands, but they make a fraction of that.

A woman we spoke with grew up poor & lost her mom to cancer. So she devoted her life to working hard to become a doctor & treat patients in low-resource settings. She’s now 250k in debt, can’t afford to work on a lower salary & has to give up on her dream to serve those in need.
