This is a beautiful story of Guruvayurappan. Once there lived in Guruvayur a poor family. Kitta, his wife & kids were struggling for their daily needs. With only a coconut tree in house, he earned a living by selling coconuts.

Kitta was from a low caste family. He was a great devotee of Guruvayurappan. Everyday before going to work he always prayed infront of a picture of Guruvayurappan in his house. His only wish was to worship at Guruvayur & have annadanam in temple. But he was not allowed there

It was Utsavam time in Guruvayur. From far behind kitta and family worshipped Guruvayurappan. Annadanam was given daily and no one was left empty stomach. Only Kitta didn't receive. That night, it was only Kitta's family who was sleeping without food. After temple nada closed

Shri Krishna, dressed himself as a Brahmin went to temple Kitchen. He packed food and went directly to kitta's house. Reaching Kitta's house, Shri Krishna told he was sent by a cook of Guruvayur temple and gave them the food he packed. Kitta and family was very happy seeing food.

When Kitta finished his food, Brahmin asked it will be better if he get a tender coconut( karikku)to drink. Kitta climbed the tree and gave all coconuts to him. After having 1 tender coconut, the Brahmin asked to bring remaining coconuts to Guruvayur temple the next day.

Tulabharam story of Guruvayurappan

Tulabharam is an offering of giving one’s weight  equivalent in fruit, sugar, butter or other grains, to Bhagwan.
Once there lived a cobbler who near Guruvayur temple. He had a practice of taking Lottery tickets.

Whenever he takes a ticket he will first pray to Guruvayurappan that if he wins he will offer a Tulabharam. Everytime he said this offering using Sugar, jaggery, butter etc.. but he didn't win lottery money a single time

He became sad but couldn't stop from buying a ticket.

One day he took a ticket of 1 crore rupees and went directly to Guruvayurappan and prayed that if he wins he will offer Tulabharam using Theertha Jalam.

That time he won prize of 1 crore, thus cobbler became very rich. He came to temple to offer Tulabharam

As he went near Tulabharam counter he was ashamed to tell his offering is with Theertham because of richness

So he told jaggery as Tulabharam. He wore rich dress while entering the temple so to avoid that dress getting dirt while sitting in Tulabharam he wore an extra dhoti

Offering started but even after putting 100kg of jaggery the balance was still low at his side.

Poojari came and asked the man about what he has prayed, as Krishna never accept anything other than prayed. Cobbler tells about his prayers about theertham.Theertham was brought but

Karadayan Nonbu / Savitri Vratham is a festival of fasting where married women will pray for the wellness and long life of their husband. Nonbu should be done exactly the time when tamil month Masi ends and the next month Panguni starts.

The reason of fasting is remembered out from Savithri who fought with Yema deva to save her husband’s life.
Savitri through her unparalleled devotion saved her husband Satyavan, from the Yama Dharma Raja.
On this day women takes fast and prays to Gauri Devi for the long life of

their husband. They wear a Nombu charadu( yellow thread) during the time and breaks fast by having the adai, a dish prepared using rice flour and jaggery.

It is believed that Savitri cooked such a dish and offered it to Yama Deva along with unmelted butter as an offering

Story of Vararachi and Ramayana

Vararuchi was a great scholar in the  Raja Vikramaditya's court. One day king asked Vararuchi which is the best verse in Ramayana.

Vararuchi was worried as each sloka was important to him. King told him to find answer within 41 days.

Vararuchi traveled many places  and asked about this question to many, but couldn't find the answer. Thus 40 days passed and without an answer he cannot visit King too
That night he fell asleep under a tree Vanadevatas who were residing at that tree were talking about a child's

Birth.
A girl child in a pariah (low caste) family. They also spoke that this same child will be married by the one who is sleeping under this tree,
MAMVIDHI.
Vararuchi was hearing this conversation, was shocked but also happy that

he got the answer. He immediately went to the King and recited this sloka which is considered to be very important in whole Ramayana.

रामम् दशरथम् विद्धि माम् विद्धि  जनकात्मजाम्
अयोध्यामटवीम् विद्धि गच्छ तात यथा सुखम्
Mata Sumitra tells this to Lakshmana

before leaving for the forest with Shri Ram and Mata Seetha.

My son: Treat your brother Rama as  Dasaratha himself, Seetha, the daughter of Janaka as myself( sumitra). Consider the forest as Ayodhya and depart happily.

Nithyakalyana Perumal Temple

Nithyakalyana Temple is located in a village called Thiruvidandai in Kanchipuram. Kshetram is one among 108 Divya Deshams. Mahavishnu is Nithyakalayana Perumal and Lakshmi Devi, Komalavalli Thayar.

Mahavishnu is Varaha murthy here. Chittirai Brahmotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadashi is very famous.
Kalyana Utsavam is conducted all days here. So those who face delay in marriage come and worship Mahavishnu here.  It is also believed that Markandeya Muni worshipped Perumal here.

Sthala Puranam says that, Jaya and Vijaya are cursed that they would be born as asuras and they were born as  Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyaksha did tapasya and obtained a boon from Brahma and captured earth and Bhudevi and hid her under the ocean.

Mahavishnu took Varaha Avatar and defeated Hiranyaksha and married Devi here. Kalava Muni , who requested MahaVishnu to marry his 360 daughters were also granted here, and Mahavishnu is Nithyakalyana perumal here.

Beautiful Story of Shri Krishna

Once there lived a Priest who recite glories of Shri Krishna. One day he was reciting Srimad Bhagavatam in a house
A thief entered and hid himself waiting for the perfect time to steal and he heard Srimad Bhaghavatam

He was explaining ornaments worn by little Krishna. He described the various ornaments Yasodha mata decorated on Krishna. Thief, excited thought that should meet little Krishna and steal all ornaments. He followed the priest and asked him about the boy, he explained in the story.

Priest replied, In the town of Vrindavan, on the banks of Yamuna river, you will see him. Thief believed him and set out for Vrindavana. He climbed up a tree and waited for the boy to arrive

He heard a melody of the flute and saw a boy coming. The moment he saw beautiful Krishna

he forgot himself and then held Krishna's hand. Krishna reminded the thief the purpose of his coming and said to take his ornaments and instructed him to check his bag. To the surprise of the thief he found a bag full of ornaments on his shoulder. He brought it to the priest's

house and told him what happened.
Priest prayed to Krishna with as why he didn't get Bhagwan darshan.

At that time he heard a sound that said “You are reading Srimad Bhagavatam just as another story whereas the thief actually believed what you told about me

Thaipooyam / Thaipoosam

The victory of Good over Evil is celebrated as Thaipooyam/ Thaipoosam. It was this day Parvati Devi presented 'Vel ' ayudham to Karthigeya. Thaipooyam is observed on Tamil month of 'Thai' and Pooyam star.

Story is that , there were 3 auras, Tarakasura, Shoorapadman and Simhamukhan. They troubled Devas and Rishi's. Devas prayed to Parama Shiva who instructed Muruga to kill the demons. Parvati Devi gave ' Vel' to Muruga and blessed him

Karthigeya, thus killed all the demons using his "Vel Ayudham". Thus Karthigeya is also called Velayudhan. ( He who has Vel as Weapon)

Many devotees take Kavadi on this day.
Vratham should be undertaken for taking Kavadi, which is highly auspicious.
