THE SCIENCE BEHIND YAJNA

Fire is, of course, one of the greatest discovery of mankind. Our control over the fire dramatically changed the entire human habits; earlier it was used to cook food, protection from animals and to stay warm.

Among the many applications of fire, one is Yajna (यज्ञ, yajña); also called as Havana (हवन) or Agnihotra (अग्निहोत्र).
Yajna is elaborately described in Yajurveda. In Yajurveda, Yajna is the greatest among all works (Karman). One can purify his /her soul by performing Yajna.

In Vedic culture, it is thought that the holy fire is the mediator between Gods and us; when the offerings are made to Yajna with chanting mantras, it directly reaches the Gods, who bless the people with rains, food, health, and good luck.

According to Apastamba Sutra, the definition of Yajna is Vedic sacrifice; an act by which we surrender something for gods e.g. grains (Anna), pulse, milk and milk product (ghee, butter, curd) fruits, plant juice (soma), etc.

As we said; Yajna is the contact medium for gods and

to seek their blessings.

There are many types of Yajna performed by Hindus for e.g.,

1. Rajsuya Yajna
2. Ashwamedha Yajna
3. Chaaturmasya Yajna
4. Vaajpey Yajna
5. Purushmedha Yajna
6. Sarvamedha Yajna

KRISHNA ELLA - THE MAN BEHIND COVAXIN

On the border between Tamilnadu and erstwhile Andhra , lies the temple town of Thiruthani, one of the six famed abodes of Lord Muruga. Krishnamurthy Ella was born in 1969,

in an agricultural family to middle class parents. No one could have imagined his trajectory.

Perhaps because of his background, Krishna wanted to study agriculture. His father wasn’t pleased - he told his son “Nobody becomes a farmer by just studying agriculture” .

Unfazed, Krishna joined University of Agricultural sciences in Bangalore. His passion and hardwork earned him a gold medal. Unlike “ordinary” gold medalists, he wasn’t content to get a job.

Nevertheless he supported himself after undergrad by working briefly in the agricultural division of Bayer Pharma. He longed for more. He got a rotary scholarship which enabled him to move to the US, to do his PhD in University of Wisconsin.

The scholarship was the wind under his wings. There was no looking back.

His speciality was molecular biology.

While in the US, he met Suchitra, an economics graduate and married her.

Average Indians in US would dream of a green card for themselves.

That's when Dr BV Rao, who was inspired by Dr Kurien's (founder of AMUL) cooperative model for milk revolution, took up the mammoth task of motivating all the poultry farmers to unite & form egg cooperative model

which could stand up against the high-handedness of the dealer-mafia. As the efforts culminated into a nation-wide movement, Dr BV Rao was finally able to establish the cooperative model in 1982 which could coordinate between farmer groups, and was aptly named

HOW SUNDAY HOLIDAY STARTED IN INDIA

When India was under the British rule, the mill workers in India had to work hard for all seven days of a week. They didn’t get any holiday or any kind of leave to get rest.

The British officials and workers would go to church every sunday and offer their prayers while there was no such tradition for the Indian mill workers.

At the point of time, Narayan Meghaji Lokhande was the leader of the mill workers, he presented a proposal of a weekly holiday in front of the Britishers. He said, “After working hard for six days, the workers should get a day to serve their country and society.

Sunday is the day of the Hindu deity ‘Khandoba’. Hence Sunday should be declared as a holiday”. But the British officials rejected his proposal.

Lokhande didn’t accept the defeat, he continued his struggle.

After a 7-year long struggle, on 10th June 1890, British Government declared sunday as a holiday. What’s surprising is that Indian government never issued any orders regarding this holiday.

From Aden to Hyderabad, Sir MV's civil engineering contributions are spread across the country and abroad.

Contrary to the popular belief, the main reason behind Bengaluru's rise to fame as the scientific & high-tech industrial hub is not really the climate, but mainly the strategic planning & tireless efforts by visionaries, who had long ago realized the importance of education &

role of industries in overall prosperity. One such example is that of the establishment of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in which Sir M Visvesvaraya had played a crucial role, and how his efforts helped the city become the hub for aerospace research.

Way back in the mid 1930s, Sir M Visvesvaraya (Sir MV) had undertaken an extensive industrial tour to Europe & USA (at his personal expense) and soon after his return, came up with detailed proposals on setting up modern industries including automobile & aircraft factories in 🇮🇳

As expected, the British Govt immediately rejected all his proposals, but Sir MV was hopeful and started preparing the groundwork so that he wouldn't waste any time when opportunity would knock at the door in future.

She is the youngest female CRPF officer to be a part of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) and is currently serving the volatile region of Bastar

Usha is a third generation CRPF officer after her grandfather and father, so the passion for the forces naturally developed in her. “Getting into CoBRA was definitely my choice. I had this wish during my basic training at CRPF Academy Kadarpur Gurugram.

But it was an all male force at that time and no woman ever joined CoBRA,” she recalls, adding, “Soon after passing out of the Academy, I first decided to work in Chhattisgarh, and was fortunate enough to get a chance to serve in the Bastar region. During my year there,

I gained knowledge and confidence about CRPF’s counter insurgency operations and also got to practically know about the functioning of CoBRA. That’s when I decided to join the elite commando force,” says the former national athlete, who represented Delhi in triple jump.

Story of Metro Man E. Sreedharan

There are some builders who need to get everything right in the first go. They cannot fail for on them rests millions of hopes. They are the class of nation builders. One such great builder of modern India is the Metro Man E. Sreedharan.

After graduating from college, Sreedharan started preparing for Indian Railway Service Examination (IRSE) while supporting himself as a college lecturer.

With in a year results were out. Sreedharan had secured an all India IRES rank of 7th. Sreedharan rose quickly in Railways

Pampan Bridge, an engineering marvel built by Britishers in 1914, connects the holy town of Rameshwaram to mainland India. The bridge suffered severe damages in the cyclone of 1964. Sreedharan was given an impossible task to make the bridge operational in 3 months. Cyclone had

washed all 126 girders. Sreedharan’s out of box thinking and his early tryst with Port Engineering came to his rescue. He fished all 126 girders from the sea using specially crafted cranes and skilled laborers finishing the repair project in record time.

What Is Dark Energy ?

More is unknown than is known. We know how much dark energy there is because we know how it affects the universe's expansion. Other than that, it is a complete mystery.

But it is an important mystery. It turns out that roughly 68% of the universe is dark energy. Dark matter makes up about 27%. The rest - everything on Earth, everything ever observed with all of our instruments, all normal matter - adds up to less than 5% of the universe.

This diagram reveals changes in the rate of expansion since the universe's birth 15 billion years ago. The more shallow the curve, the faster the rate of expansion. The curve changes noticeably about 7.5 billion years ago, when objects in the universe began flying apart as

a faster rate. Astronomers theorize that the faster expansion rate is due to a mysterious, dark force that is pulling galaxies apart.

WHAT OUR SANATAN DHARMA SAYS IN THIS CONTEXT LET’S TAKE A LOOK

The verses of Taittiriya Aranyaka say that only one pada of the Lord

is this manifested universe and the remaining three padas are outside it.

According to the observations and realizations of ancient seers, nearly eighty percent of this universe is yet of unknown nature which remains inactive during the process of creation (rather, evolution).
