Atikaya was the son of Ravan's second wife Dhanyamalini. He was considered very powerful and elusive. His body was as huge as a mountain. Like his father Ravan, he was a great devotee of Mahadev.

According to some legends Mahadev had taught archery to Atikaya. Due to which he had become a great archer.He did severe penance of Brahma ji. Pleased with Atikaya's penance, Brahma ji gave him a divine chariot and many astras.

He had also received an impenetrable armor from Brahma ji. Atikaya caused heavy destruct!on in the vanar sena. He started defeating great warriors.Then he had a fierce battle with Lakshman ji. Both of them started att@ck!ng each other with divine weap0ns.

Lakshman ji att@cked the Atikaya with a Agni Astra. But Atikaya failed this att@ck with his Varunastra.Vayu Dev told Lakshman ji that you should att@ck the Atikaya with the Brahmastra.

एक बार कुछ देवतागण, ऋषि पाताल में जाकर शेषनाग जी से कुछ वार्तालाप कर रहे थे। इसी दौरान किसी ऋषि ने कुछ ऐसा कहा जिससे वह सब हंसने लगे। शेषनाग जी भी अपनी हंसी रोक नहीं पाए और जोर-जोर से हंसने लगे जिस कारण उनके फनों पर स्थित धरती हिलने लगी।

जिसे देखकर ऋषियों में मौजूद अष्टावक्र जी ने अपने हाथों का सहारा देकर धरती को बचा लिया। यह देखकर शेषनाग जी बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और उन्होंने प्रसन्नता सवरूप अष्टावक्र जी को एक दिव्य अंगूठी दी और कहा यह अंगूठी बहुत ही दिव्य है। इसे धारण कर लीजिए और अगर आप इसे उतारें तो दोबारा मत पहने।

अष्टावक्र जी के प्रिय शिष्य थे राजा अज जो कि महाराज दशरथ के पिता थे। एक बार प्रसन्न होने पर अष्टावक्र जी ने वह अंगूठी राजा अज को दे दी और कहा इसे धारण कर लीजिए। राजन यह बहुत दिव्य अंगूठी है। परंतु कभी भी इस अंगूठी को उतारना मत अगर किसी कारणवश इसे उतारना पड़े तो दोबारा मत पहनना।

जब विवाह उपरांत माता सीता ने पहली बार भोजन बनाया तो भोजन से प्रसन्न होकर महाराज दशरथ ने वह अंगूठी अपनी पुत्रवधू को उपहार स्वरूप दे दी। जब रामचंद्र भगवान, सीता जी, लक्ष्मण जी वनवास के लिए निकले तो सब ने अपने आभूषणों का त्याग किया।

This Murti found from barren land in the shape of a betel nut. Whose size is increasing every year. Banjari Mata is the Kuldevi of the people of Banjara Community, hence the deity Virajman here is called Banjari Devi.

Devi Meenakshi emerged from yagna fire as a 3 year old girl when Pandyan King Malayadwaja and Kanchanamalai were praying for a child.
It is said that Devi was born with three breasts and there was a prophesy that her superfluous breast would melt away when she met her husband.

Devi ruled over Madurai and captured Indralok. She went on to capture Kailasha. When she saw Shiva, her 3rd breast disappeared and she realised that Shiva would be her consort.
The divine marriage was attended by all Devas and Sri Vishnu (as her brother) gave her hand to Shiva.

It is said that Indra found a swayambhu lingam at Kadamba Vanam. He placed it in Madurai where the kshetram stands. Here, Shiva is seen on the vehicle of Indra.
The Golden Lotus Tank is said to be the place where a golden lotus blossomed for the puja performed by Indra.

The Meenakshi Thirukalyanam festival is celebrated in the Chithirai month to mark the divine marriage of Meenakshi Amman. The festival includes a procession where Meenakshi and Sundareshwara travel in a chariot and Sri Vishnu gives away his sister in marriage to Shiva.
